(22,462 posts)except "Where is your mask" and then I stared at him and his wife to the point where he pulled her and went the other way BUT what I thought about saying after that is:
"I bet you don't wash your hands after you go to the bathroom either you dirty disgusting thing"
So I'm holding onto that one for the next time I am faced with an idiot.
And btw I spoke with the management at Whole Foods and they told me the guy said he had a medical reason for not wearing a mask and because they have not been mandated here they could not do anything.
BUT I saw on Costo's door the other day that if you have a medical reason for not wearing a mask the you can wear a shield!
I'll also tell that to Whole Foods management if it happens again.
We need to fight these assholes off. They are killing people.
My Aunt died Sunday night from Covid. Fuck all of them!

(6,212 posts)she was on a train and the woman next to her had her mask pulled down to her chin. My daughter very politely told the woman she didnt feel comfortable being next to the woman with her mask down, could she please pull it up. The woman refused and six other people on the train started harassing and threatening my daughter about their rights. My daughter was frightened and got off the train to take the next one instead. I saw today that England had a tremendous amount of cases reported today. The idiots are everywhere in the world and they make it almost impossible to stop the pandemic.

(21,346 posts)A refusal to accept that sometimes community well being really does take precedence over individual assertions of freedoms. You are not free to kill anyone you wish. That is true whether killing one person with a gun or several people with a virus.

(2,689 posts)The store can refuse entry to someone with leprous wounds dripping pus, can they not? I cant bandage up. My doctor tells me it will make my lesions worse.
Yeah, sure, were Whole Foods! Come right the fuck inside and, oh my, you just dropped a pus-filled finger on the floor . . . .shame theres no mask or bandage mandate.
Seriously? Who the hell is that manager and is this a rule coming down from Bezos or has Bezos already fired the son of a bitch?
Simple: my store, my rules. Im not discriminating against you because of your medical condition. Im discriminating against the pandemic disease you may be carrying and potentially spewing it on others.
Fucking nonsense.

(6,792 posts)If putting it over your nose fogs your glasses, a little paper tape (available wherever first aid products are sold) will hold the mask in place and keep the fog from forming. And it's (the paper tape) hypoallergenic.

(7,275 posts)it is probably right-on for the target audience, which is the anti-mask maskholes.
So, while your concern is duly noted, if someone mimicks this to the next maskhole they meet in CVS, it just might be effective. Fire vs fire, and all that.

(16,088 posts)People who think they dont need to wear a mask. Im starting to get more assertive about someone in my space. I havent seen my family since February. Yeah..Im pissed. Put on a damned mask. This womans rant says everything I wanna say.

(42,862 posts)Well then, memorize her rant and give it a shot. Confront the next anti-masker you encounter and let 'em have it... then report back here and let us know if it the message was well-received and persuasive.

(42,862 posts)It reminds me of that fast-talking coked-up dilated-eyes insane rant that Trump-Junior did one time. Only, his was worse because it wasn't scripted. This woman is clearly reading from a prepared script, or she memorized her rant before recording it.
I do not disagree with the message that people should wear masks. I just think her delivery and her smart aleck "Real Housewives" attitude causes more harm than good. Is it a race-to-the-bottom? She makes pro-maskers look like lunatics. Ugh.
There are better ways to get the message out.

(16,088 posts)There are better ways to express frustration or just a moment of rage. Personally, I have never reacted like that but there are times I just wanna scream. Wont help matters but..Id probably feel better for a moment or two. Thanks for the conversation and I sincerely wish you well 🙋♀️

(195 posts)This is a bigger issue than masks. What about Shoes? Shirts? And the less discussed issue of pants?
I really want to see a movement of people going in to stores without Shirts, or without Pants, of course barefoot, screaming about "constitutional rights!". I'm pretty sure that the first time an anti-mask nutso has her kids look at my elderly junk or saggy hairy moobs (s)he will suddenly have a double standard.
Who are the first volunteers to give them the freedumb they ask for?

(31,374 posts)Only I have news for her: there is no such thing as a speed limit any more, at least here in the Triangle area of North Carolina. I would not use driving the speed limit as an example of rule following. But I have also thought for some time that the lack of following the speed limit is symptomatic of an American attitude that has developed in the past 20 or so years that "the rules aren't meant for me because I'm special and they don't apply to me". The anti maskers have the same attitude. There no longer is a sense of community and concern for your fellow citizens.

(4 posts)I live in Marietta, Georgia. Went to a local grocery store this afternoon. The store says it requires customers to wear masks. Yet, when I pointed out a man and a woman not wearing one - the manager I spoke within ignored me! This is the same store that makes in-store announcements saying shoppers are required to wear masks, yet their managers look the other way when a few people ignore their so-called requirements!

(27,995 posts)I had a similar experience at a Walgreens that had signs and announcements requiring masks. I saw at least 4 people in the store without them.
When I mentioned it to the cashier she replied that "for our own safety", they aren't supposed to confront customers who aren't wearing them.

(4 posts)Thank you for welcoming me, DesertRat. I'm excited to join this wonderful forum.
As an OBTW, I called the regional office of the grocery store chain (Kroger's) and briefly explained that particular experience. I then asked for a senior person to call me back and explain why the rights of anti-maskers take precedence over everyone else wearing masks. Needless to say, I've yet to hear back from anyone.
Nonetheless, here's to a healthy and happy new year! We all deserve it.

(1,402 posts)These anti-maskers know what they are doing and they're asking for you to embarrass them. Today while waiting at the post office to pick up an overdue parcel, I was chatting with a woman who had lost her husband to the virus just one month ago. In walks an anti-masker. Repeatedly and very loudly, I asked her to please put on her mask. Her bad action was very deliberate, she had no mask. I reached into my purse and offered her one from a new package. She was shamed and she couldn't get out of the post office fast enough. I dare say, I believe she will think twice before entering a public building again, sans mask.
This was not fun for me, I don't relish having to ask someone to be responsible to others. I realized that this could backfire on me but, I just could not let this go. In fact, a couple of people thanked me. I think they knew I was standing up for all of us.

(42,862 posts)No I'm not. I don't confront strangers because I don't want to be punched in the face or shot... I'm not complicit. They are going to do what they want, regardless.
I'm not... so, supposedly that makes me (and others like me) "complicit," eh? Charming.
