The Greek government is being denounced by the National Confederation of Disabled People after it added pedophiles, exhibitionists, and kleptomaniacs to the list of disabled people entitled to state benefits. They have joined pyromaniacs, compulsive gamblers, fetishists and sadomasochists as persons entitled to ask for government assistance.
For example, a pyromaniac or pedophiles is now entitled to disability pay up to 35 percent while a diabetic is entitled to only 10 percent disability. Presumably, a diabetic pedophiles could received 45 percent disability, so it might be useful for diabetics to claim an interest in child or fires or both.
As Greece struggles with demands to reduce its bloated state funding, this is not a useful step. In Greece, one out of five workers is a state employee, a whooping 20 percent of the working population. The state is having to cut benefits for citizens. I am all in favor of paying for treatment for pedophiliacs and kleptomaniacs, but should it be treated as a disability? What do you think?

(24,979 posts)The real point of the piece is not that it makes no sense to classify pedophiles as disabled (it doesn't, assuming that's really the case), but that "Bankrupt, Spendthrift Greek Freeloaders Take German Taxpayer Money and Give it to PEDOPHILES!!!" makes for great smear propaganda.
The critique of Greek policy on this point (whatever the actual details and faults of it) should be its own issue.
It should not be falsely associated with the Greek economic crisis, as though there is a necessary relation.
To do so is a propaganda assist to the bankster criminals who are in the process of seizing all the wealth that can be squeezed out of Greece, and who recently executed a coup d'etat against democracy in Greece, installing one of their own as the unelected prime minister.

I'm not the alerting type, but someone will do it.

(42,239 posts)A Greek government plan to categorise paedophiles and pyromaniacs as "disabled" has alarmed disability groups, who fear it could undermine their state benefits.
The new code could be used "to cut the number of disabled people with a right to disability benefits", the groups' national leader, Yannis Vardakastanis, told BBC News.
Indebted Greece is slashing state aid.
Disabled Greeks rallied in December, demanding job and benefit protection.

(14,040 posts)Some argue (and I think it makes a lot of sense) that what is referred to as homosexuality in the bible (and that word wasn't introduced in the bible until 1953, I think, because there was no word for homosexuality when the bible was written), is actually pedophilia and men who used male rape as a means of showing dominance.

There is no correlation between homosexuality and the male-male sex referred to in the Bible. You are correct that "sodomy," etc. was a late edition. Those words do not exist in the original Greek and Hebrew.
Interesting factoid: Christ even heals a Roman Centurion's young slave lover in the NT.

(14,040 posts)Some believe that Jesus acknowledged that some people are born gay. When he speaks to some folks about divorce, he talks about "born eunuchs" not ever getting married because they're, well, born eunuch. Born eunuch has been interpreted by some scholars to mean gay.
