I'll tell you what I think he expected:
That his followers would storm the Capitol, and interrupt the certification of Biden's election.
That violence would erupt.
That there would be casualties, including amongst members of Congress (Dems especially, but perhaps Pence and Mitch as well).
That a strong police/military response would be required and activated, with many more casualties.
That extreme turmoil would ensue, especially in DC, but nationwide as well.
That martial law would have to be instituted.
After that, I don't know. But I can very safely say that everything above is exactly what Trump was hoping and praying for. Guaranteed.

(46,492 posts)That was the end game I think.
He thought Congress would be bullied and delay the certification. Buy him time to concoct...something. Cruz was pushing that ridiculous 10-day commission. None of it worked that way and Pence did his job exactly as required. In the end, the siege didnt impact the timeline. In fact, challenges to some states were dropped and the process was shortened than what was expected.

Yes it back fired. Big time.
Thank god.

(10,128 posts)Well, I don't think he'd fit into a tank, but some sort of military vehicle, flanked by bloodied Magats, to enter the Capitol in triumph. He will then ask the surviving members of Congress to declare him President for Life, with Ivanka his heir. Since everyone except his rabble would be dead - and he'd have his shock troops make sure of that - he will proclaim Year 1 of Trump (1 DT) and free covefee and hamberders for all.
