Man seen carrying Pelosi's lectern in Capitol riot released on $25K bond

https://www.localmemphis.com/mobile/article/news/crime/adam-johnson-capitol-release-florida-man-nancy-pelosi-lectern/67-5046ce9b-e583-4131-89ab-e85dbb78f009

TAMPA, Fla. — Adam Johnson, the man seen carrying the lectern of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi during the U.S. Capitol riot, was released from jail Monday.

Johnson, 36, of Parrish, Florida, for his release signed a $25,000 signature bond, which he does not have to pay unless he fails to show up at his next court appearance.

Snip

Judge Christopher Tuite ordered Johnson to surrender his passport, submit to substance abuse tests, surrender all firearms and wear a tracking device. Under the terms of his release, he would not be allowed to travel outside the Middle District of Florida, unless it's to Washington, D.C., for court cases.

Johnson also would have a 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew.

More at link. One of his lawyers said his client wants privacy, the other said it will be difficult to defend because of the images.

1. "the other said it will be difficult to defend because of the images."

He could always claim innocence on the grounds of "being white".

2. that's $2500 he will never see again....

Unless you put up your own money, most bond companies charge 10% up front. You don't get that back. Ever. It covers their risk in case you don't appear.

Plus attorney fees. Defending a federal charge from out of state will cost you in excess of $10k I imagine. More if it goes to trial. It's a start.

But hard time would be better.

10. yeah, I wonder what the guidelines are for what they are being charged with?

Probably pretty low. Although people did die, so that might kick up the tier they get sentenced under. Dunno.

My guess is only a short sentence with much of it suspended.

But I'd like it to be multi-decade with no chance of parole.

21. I think the two nights in lock up, a fine and the worldwide humiliation is prob sufficient for this

clown.

Others were up to more devious things and should get actual time. This guy is just a deeply unserious idiot, and should be treated as such. Being that guy for the rest of his pathetic life is punishment enough.

24. More to do with affluenza, imo

Wife is a doctor. Make an example of every single one of them! They should all be charged with murder in commission of felonies!

6. It was a PR bond.

They let him go on his signature. The other restrictions won't be fun for him and his face will be forever findable worldwide with a simple Google search. It sucks to be him.

17. He was released on a signature bond - he paid nothing

And will pay nothing as long as he shows up for court.

You are thinking of a10% bond.

and smiling for the cameras, like some deranged latter-day Gaul sacking Rome...

Shouldn't have let him out on bail, imho, not with ongoing plans for more terrorist activities & inauguration.

12. If he jumps bail, he's out $25,000. Which I'm betting,

living as he does in his mother's basement, that he doesn't have.

16. If he wanted privacy

He should have considered other activities than breaking into the seat of the US government, with cameras everywhere, himself unmasked, posing while grinning and stealing the lectern of the Speaker of the House.

His RIGHT to privacy may technically still be covered under the constitution, but I wouldn't want to be the attorney trying to argue in court that he cherished it to any degree.
