McConnell obstruction of Biden begins

"McConnell’s office called Schumer’s people today + told them McConnell would not consent to reconvening immediately under the 2004 emergency authorities, a person familiar says. So the Senate won’t reconvene Friday, or almost certainly before Jan. 19. Trial in Biden term"

I'm starting to think rather than convict Trump and remove his right to again seek office, maybe we just let him create as much chaos as possible in the GOP campaigns for 2024?

Opinions?

All he needs to do is hold a few interviews / events in ritzy surroundings where he says that maybe he adopted the wrong tone (he’ll save the overt IT WAS STOLEN!! until he’s back in the White House) and they’ll be falling over themselves to tell the world how this 78 year old man has matured since he was a little hatchling of 74.

Trump should be convicted and banned from office.
That is what the constitution and our national security requires.
There are times when you don't play political games. This should be one of those times.

The proper exercise of duty is to impeach Trump, full throttle.
My question was about political strategy, not duty.

Though in 2024, I believe the honestly duped will recant. "Trump fatigue" is now firmly established.
AND, an impeachment inquiry will uncover more wrongdoing. We might even get to see his taxes?

Sort of like the attitudes expressed re: Hitler following his release from jail in 1924 after his attempt at a coup in 1923--most thought he'd "learned his lesson."

In his new book 1924, Peter Ross Range (formerly of TIME) explores how the year Adolf Hitler spent in jail—following a failed attempt at a coup in November of 1923—was a crucial step in his rise to power. As Range writes in the introduction, “Had Hitler not spent 1924 in Landsberg Prison, he might never have emerged as the redefined and recharged politician who ultimately gained control of Germany, inflicted war on the world, and perpetrated the Holocaust.”

In this excerpt, 1924 is coming to an end and Hitler has been released from prison. He returns to Munich to plot what would come next:

We must go for the metaphorical "dagger to the heart"-- in all ways possible.

Trump began his 2020 campaign a day after winning in 2016. We should do the same and an obvious target improves our focus. Mitch wants Trump gone for political reasons, we need to pay attention.

Pundits want to paint the Republican party as a Maverick party with principles so badly, but it's not working. It's the party of trump.

It’s also possible that he’s content to let Dems do his dirty work. I think he would like to see Trump barred from running again, but has no desire to be at the vanguard of that effort. It’s a classic Mitch play.

So does he support a trial and the flurry of subpoenas surely to be issued at a Trump Senate Impeachment trial?
Maybe dragging it out , maybe even adding charges will work against the GOP?

I would hope we can do it when we take control and then can control the rules for the trial because Turtle most certainly will NOT allow "splitting" the time between a trial and Biden's agenda.

And the provision for not allowing running for another election is a separate vote and only requires a majority vote... meaning there is a good chance for that to pass with no problem.
