My 10,000th post sorta slipped up on me but, for better or worse, this is it.

It does not seem possible that I have actually typed that many posts, but DU says that's the count and I NEVER argue with DU! (I know, I know!)

Most of the time, my posts were of the "ho-hum" variety. Some were of the "Who IS this idiot?" variety.

The responses to some of my posts showed me how ignorant I was; some educated me; some condemned me; and, some made me say "Huh?"

Some of those 10,000 posts pissed you off and some generated "You done good!" responses and kind words.

I continue to be grateful for the DU soapbox and the sense of community it provides. I am past my allotted "three score and ten", so I doubt you will see another 10,000 posts from me, but thank you for tolerating the first 10,000.

Stay safe, GOTV and vote for ALL Democrats.

Is Deontay Wilder finished? Will he ever again fight for the World title?

Also, I once said that your description of Wilder sounded similar to the way you once described Rocky Marciano. I had asked who would have won a bout between Larry Holmes and Marciano, and you wrote to me: "In truth, Larry probably would have defeated Rocky. But, Marciano might have KOed him. For if Rocky hurt an opponent, they didn't survive."

Does that sound like Deontay Wilder? Are they similar fighters? I asked you that once before but you never got back to me.

Wilder has a lot going for him, and some significant issues that may keep him from his full potential. He is, of course, big, strong, athletic, has great punching power, and has a pretty good understanding of ring geography. And, when he has opted to use it properly, his jab is a bullwhip, one that sets up that powerful right hand.

Working against him is that he has never learned proper balance, nor some other very basic skills. As long as he was able to land that big right hand, he didn't pay for those things. Many people anticipated that Mark Breland would be able t6o develop these skills in Deontay. Mark ranks -- at least in my opinion -- as the second best American amateur ever, after Ezzard Charles, although his pro career was not as impressive as anticipated. Breland has the ability to teach a fighter of Wilder's build. However, Mark was generally only brought in for the last two weeks of Wilder's training before a fight. That obviously isn't sufficient for Wilder's needs.

Tyson Fury proved a very difficult opponent for Deontay in both fights. Fury gave him a beating in the second one, when he moved Deontay backwards in every round. Wilder was totally unprepared for that. Yet Fury was being trained by the late Manny Stewart's top assistant -- again, one who teaches "fighting tall" -- and I think everyone outside Deontay's circle knew he was going to be coming forward, sitting down on his punches. (In two weeks, or six days of training, Mark couldn't properly prepare Wilder. No way in hell.)

After the fight, Deontay fired Mark, re-hired, then re-fired him. He's blamed Mark, and made excuses similar to Big George Foreman after Ali knocked him out. I think that has gone on alarmingly long. While a defeat is hard for an undefeated fighter, it is best to use it as a learning lesson. Come back stronger, better prepared. Some fighters do, others don't. Gerry Cooney was never the same after Holmes, for example.

I've had a series of conversations with Tim Witherspoon, about possibly training Deontay. I think Tim was the most talented heavyweight of his era, though Don King destroyed his ability to fight due to a contract dispute. Tim is a serious man, with a great understanding of the sport, and the ability to teach. I have a very high opinion of him, as a fighter and a good man. If Deontay hires him, he will return a much improved fighter.

Can you imagine, for example, of instead of either not using his jab, or wasting it by trying to hit Fury's head, he instead threw the first jab to Fury's upper chest? When a taller man, leaning back to protect his face, gets hit on the upper chest, it pushes him off balance. Then the rest of the punches have a far, far better chance of landing, and nothing is going to be coming back at you until he's planted his feet ....and, by then, you've shifted away, either to the left or right. The opponent again has to shift his feet, allowing you to land one or two more, before moving away.

I have be alternately cheered, reviled, shamed, embarrassed, and educated. While I might disagree somewhat with not being able to inject, in my opinion, constructive criticism of Democrats, I understand it helps to keep the trolls out.

Above all though, I love DU and I know I have loved reading many of your posts! I look forward to however many you have left in you!

We need to keep Miss Murder/Sedition/QAnon at least securely contained - in MINORITY status, if not OUSTED altogether.

We should strive to make Marjorie Taylor Greene and that equally seditious Lauren Boebert creature rue the day they ran for Congress.
