We are going to get there

Today I volunteered at a vaccination sight. We vaccinated 1100 human beings from all walks of life, mostly older folks of course but some younger like first responders. All kinds of people. At least one ww2 veteran. So many men, black and white who were vietnam veterans. So many loving families, wives driving their husbands and husbands driving wives, so many children and grand children bringing their loved ones. Single people. A notable number of Asian kids driving their grandparents. Different backgrounds and languages and car stickers all over the map and everyone just wanting to take care of them and make it ok.

Listen there were some heart breakers who couldn't get the vaccine themselves because they were a year too young and so on, and that sucked. But I came away feeling more hope than I've felt in a while. Yes we need more vaccine and we need it faster. But we will make it. We are good people in this country. We still are, we really still are. We are going to get through this and we are going to make it.

the great majority looked older 55 and up.
but its hopeful to hear.
They should try to get one to as many people as possible.
Even with the variants.

Thanked the first responders. Did not expect to feel so emotionally drained. Thanks for volunteering!

Yes, yes we will. Of course not all are getting through unscathed, sadly. But I know what you mean, and I appreciate your hopeful message.

Thank you for working at the vaccination site today.

I've relied on DU for news (and sanity!) the last four years. This year I decided to join in because honestly I got tired of missing out on all the heart fun and also knew it was high time I pitched in a bit to support this site.

You can’t even get an appointment. The website was down when it said there were available appointments. Then all of a sudden there were none when it came back up. Lots of cheating going on. I am going to try calling instead of the website next week.

Some high risk/ older people are not going to make it or get there because they are going to get covid when they should have already had the vaccine.

in a text msg. It's not the way I expected to be notified. I'm a Kaiser member, and this isn't with Kaiser. It's the County Health Dept and because I'm a low income Senior, I fell into a category (I guess) or a targeted group for this particular vaccination drive.

I'm a little bit scaredy. But I hate needles and shots and get them for everything else.

It's interesting cuz I double checked my Kaiser page to see if they're now scheduling my age group, but no they're still doing 75 and older. so I guess I'll keep this appointment and get the shot today.

I was shocked that I didn't FEEL a thing! It seems that slimmer needles are being used? I don't know, but it was unusually painless.

Had to wait 30 min to satisfy reaction observation requirements.

Came home to catch Raskin's closing. Brought me down to tears. I hope I'll be able to find a video of the opening. I hear it was powerful.

I know that pfizer sends their own, not sure about moderna. The second dose may be more uncomfortable but it is a good sign that it is working and your immune system is recognizing it.

And the only complaint was a very sore arm, although they too didn't feel the shot.

So far my arm isn't sore at all. It's been about 5 hours now. maybe it'll get sore later. xing fingers it won't last long.

I'm hoping the 2nd dose is just as comfortable as this one was.
