Pelosi officially announces commission to study attack on Capitol

Is this new? I hadn't seen the announcement before.

Pelosi officially announces commission to study attack on Capitol, and an emergency spending bill for Capitol security.

EDIT: TPM has the statement as well:

From the TPM link:

https://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/good-2

For the past few weeks, General Honoré has been assessing our security needs by reviewing what happened on January 6 and how we must ensure that it does not happen again. He has been working with Committees of Jurisdiction and will continue to make proposals.

It is clear from his findings and from the impeachment trial that we must get to the truth of how this happened. To protect our security, our security, our security, our next step will be to establish an outside, independent 9/11-type Commission to “investigate and report on the facts and causes relating to the January 6, 2021 domestic terrorist attack upon the United States Capitol Complex… and relating to the interference with the peaceful transfer of power, including facts and causes relating to the preparedness and response of the United States Capitol Police and other Federal, State, and local law enforcement in the National Capitol Region.”

As we prepare for the Commission, it is also clear from General Honoré’s interim reporting that we must put forth a supplemental appropriation to provide for the safety of Members and the security of the Capitol.

This is a good thing.

will investigate. But these things take time for the results to come out.

Meantime, the Traitor Party is still actively working to regain power in 2022. They still have their home state support. 2022 will be just as important to our democracy as 2020 was.

Regardless of whether the orange fascist holds power in his party or fades, the rabid fascists in office and among their constituents who supported him will still be actively engaged in overturning the government, including Biden and Harris. The threat is far from over.

She is so f'ing competent.

I also hate that she will most likely retire after this term.

But to paraphrase Mike Tomlin, coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, "It's Next Person Up".

The Democrat who takes over for her as next Speaker of The House in 2022 will have huge shoes to fill.

And yes - We are going to work very hard, harder then anyone has ever worked, you have never seen such hard work in the history of America, to make sure the Democratic Party wins the House again in 2022. It's going to be wild.

I wanted this for tRump/Russia instead of Mueller. A non partisan, fully funded, separate, independent investigation. I wish they would also set one of these up for Team tRump's handling of Covid, resulting in hundreds of thousands of death.

It's annoying hearing it referred to as "9/11-type".

We could let a certain senator run it, then call it the "Warren Commission".

No, not that one either.

It needs a name.

My cynicism is growing and until I see people grilled, indicted, convicted and imprisoned I really don't see much of a point. Unless it's to look serious for another year or so, so that everyone gets reelected in 2-4-6 years. Heads need to roll in these latest un-American activities of all involved which starts at the top... TRUMP! He will skate again because how will it look to imprison a former president? Oh, the shame!

The Mueller investigation was a bust. Barr seems to be relaxing comfortably and not a single one of them (to my knowledge) is even sniffing in the direction of ES&S voting machines in the states where seemingly close elections turned out to be blowouts for congressional republicans.

I'm sorry but, they won't even touch Kellyanne Conway for multiple violations of the Hatch Act. Trump's mountainous emoluments violations. Nothing! His rape and sexual assault accusations always hit dead ends and of course he never did anything wrong during his long association with Jeffrey Epstein. I'm so sick of these people being considered 'untouchable' and above the law. There has to be some reporter(s) somewhere that can fianlly break open the multitude of scandals surround this shitshow to where they are forced to do the right thing.

I'll stop now. I'm starting to ramble. I'm just so discouraged and disappointed waiting for someone in power to finally do the right thing. I need a drink.

The people who win elections are tried of hearing about trump. He's a loser now, only president to be impeached twice, etc. They're ready to hear about the business of the country. If we spend the next two yrs investigating trump I dont think it will go over well in '22. There are PLENTY of private investigations going on. Let them have at him. They're likely to have more success at it anyway

It can do its work out of the spotlight and not distract Dems in congress or the Biden WH. The commission will have to be careful not to get tangled up with the DoJ/FBI investigations of the rioters, but there is plenty to uncover with respect to the law enforcement preparedness and response. Tim Ryan's sub-committee is investigating the response and should have information that will provide a starting point.
