Prediction: Romney/Huntsman for rethug ticket

Last edited Wed Jan 11, 2012, 11:15 AM - Edit history (1)

Seems that barring some surprise, Romney will likely walk away with the rethug nomination. Sad, because I'd prefer to see them tear each other apart all the way to the convention.

My prediction: that he will choose Jon Huntsman for his running mate. No way will he tap either Gingrich or Paul. Santorum or Perry might be possible, if he wants to appease the fundies who might be nervous about voting for a Mormon. But I think he'll take Huntsman, and try to appear "moderate". Of course, "moderate" for a rethug is merely someone who isn't frothing at the mouth like Ron Paul.

Huckabee might also be a possibility.

(on edit)

**** MEA CULPA - See post #35. I blew it on this one - I admit it. Somehow I forgot that Huntsman was also Mormon - no way will the rethugs allow two Mormons on their ticket. ****

One Huntsman and Romney hate each other. two, Romney needs a conservative so the conservatives will trust him. My guess is he will go with a southerner.

He already has Utah sewed up. Its be two Mormons on a ticket, two moderates. He needs a conservative and he needs help in a big state like Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania... Huntsman brings him nothing. He could also use a woman or a Latino.

Running mate will be 'the anti-Romney that wasn't.' A tea party-backed conservative that can gin up some enthusiasm from that crowd for the ticket. Probably not somebody who ran for president.

The entire GOP field has been going after Romney with slightly more gusto than a pack of lions goes after a freshly-killed wildebeest. I don't think he'll want to run with someone who's spent six months tearing him apart.

I don't know...maybe Scott Brown? Elizabeth Warren stands a pretty good chance of taking Brown's Senate seat. And Romney has no shortage of houses he could declare as his primary residence.
