that's nothing compared to Ted Cruz's valiant mission to recruit aid workers directly from Cancun....... "wait, what's that?.. Mhhm.. Vacation you say?.. Coming back early to "save face".... Oh, I see.. Never mind... ".

(82,849 posts)D'Souza couldn't see how Cruz could do anything to help, and maybe by reducing his infinitesimal energy consumption everything would be all right in Texas.
Here's something Cruz could be doing, Mr. D'Souza. But since it's Rep. Ocasio-Cortez doing it, it probably doesn't count and you can dismiss her work as grandstanding or something.

(2,008 posts)... and I'd get to see video of the rednecks abashedly accepting the help from the "commie librulz".
There goes my petty side flaring up again. And I was doing so well once I got beyond that major lapse on Jan 20-21, flipping to Faux Noise to watch their anchors spitting out the phrase "President Biden".

(14,489 posts)I've been wanting to help the folks down there but like with all national disasters, one doesn't know where to start.
We can't afford to send a lot but we know every little bit adds up. My son and I can tighten out belts for a month or so to help so many in need.
Contributions go to: Houston Food Bank, Feeding Texas, ECHO (Ending Community Homelessness Coalition), Family Eldercare and The Bridge Homeless Recovery Center.
I'm thinking about giving a little more to the Red Cross as well.
Thanks for doing this, AOC.......

(17,099 posts)I posted this on my Facebook page:
I have donated $50.00 to a Texas relief organization started by Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
From Rep. Ocasio-Cortez' Twitter page: "Team AOC is launching relief efforts for Texas starting today. Our first effort is a partnership w/ 5 Texas orgs getting on-the-ground relief to Texans ASAP."
100% of my $50.00 donation is being immediately split between:
The Bridge Homeless Recovery Center, Ending Community Homeless Coalition (ECHO), Family Eldercare, Houston Food Bank, and Feeding Texas. They are working around the clock to assist houseless, hungry and senior Texans in Travis and Dallas County, and beyond.

(30,733 posts)Good to know.
I am more likely to follow the activities of Lauren Underwood and Cheri Bustos, two Democratic Congresswomen in my state, who work hard and get things done with little fanfare. We could use ten more just like them.
What you fail to mention is that AOC has been too critical of the moderates in our party, people like Cheri Bustos. Those are the only types of Democrats likely to be elected in purple districts like those of Bustos and Underwood. Both barely won their elections, because they were targeted by the republican party. This article is a couple of months old, but it shows how AOC creates tension within our party:
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-election-2020/cheri-bustos-house-democratic-campaign-chair-aoc-b1719968.html
Nancy Pelosi knows that we need unity. I am grateful for her leadership and her support of all our Democratic Congresspeople.

What a useless POS that man is. A big, greasy ball of nasty. Even his family doesn't seem to like him all that much, which was evidenced in a "campaign" video of a few years ago that made A-W-K-W-A-R-D into an Olympic event.
Total cringefest.

(9,988 posts)Not Democrats caving to GQP policy demands even though we won the election decisively.
But helping people in need, regardless. Some of this money she raised will go to people who hate her guts and want her dead. She's not fussing about that, though, there's no provision that the help only goes to helping "our" people. It's a matter of principle. If people are cold and hungry and have no electricity, they should be helped and they don't need to be a certain "type" of people. Being human is enough.
It won't win over the worst of the worst, but some who are teetering on the edge might remember this. We can hope. But in the meantime, she's just doing it because it's the right thing to do.
tonedevil
(3,022 posts)because it is the right thing is what I aspire to.

(6,078 posts)She is the kind of leader in this party we need. AOC puts her money where her mouth is and does good for humanity.
