Monique Munoz died in the two vehicle crash last Wednesday in LA. The 32-year-old secretary was trapped in the wreckage and died at the scene, LAFD said. She was planning to go to law school
He said: We know who the kid is. We know who the father is. Were letting the law take care of him.
Like I said, who gives a teenager a Lamborghini? We found out last night, the teen doesnt even have a license.
Cordona added: This is devastating. Its just not right.
Depending on the model, a Lamborghini can costs upwards of $400,000.
Moniques brother Phillip Munoz, 35, of Culver City, California, added: If theres anything to be said about him, its for the police. We dont want nothing to do with any of them.
Under California law, teenagers are allowed to apply for an instruction permit aged 16 but are not allowed to drive alone until they have passed their test or turn 17.
The boy involved in the crash had turned 17 but it is not known whether he had passed his test. Minors are also prohibited from driving between 11pm and 5am until they turn 18.

(146,248 posts)When I was 16, I got my full California driver's license. No restrictions - except from my parents. They had lots of restrictions. I couldn't drive more than 10 miles away from home. I couldn't drive after midnight. I could only have a passenger in the car on a date. No cruising with my friends. No tickets or I lost my driving privileges. I had to wash the car once a week. I had to pay for all gas I used.
My steady date's parents also had restrictions. No parking in dark places with their daughter, who had to be home by 11 PM on weekends, and was not to be returned to her house with her sweater inside out. That last restriction I learned about too late, in a stern lecture from her mother, who had a hard time not laughing as she lectured me.
The car? My parents' 1959 Plymouth Savoy, with a 6-cylinder engine and a two-speed automatic transmission. "The Boat." 0-60 in about 45 seconds.
What 17 year old has a Lamborghini to drive?

(21,988 posts)Except for our "boat." We had a 1965 Buick station wagon. Man, the adventures I had with that car...
I never got the "Sweater Lecture" but I did get the she better be home by 11:30 admonition!

(16,616 posts)18 year old "borrowed" her father's Porsche (without permission) while high on cocaine and crashed it at 100 MPH into a toll booth a few minutes later. She was instantly killed but did not take anyone else with her. Ghastly crash. Crime scene photos were leaked all over the internet. Family sued the leakers and won, but to this day--even with the help of Reputation Defender--they can't scrub the crash photos off the internet.

I'd love to hear his parents' insurance claim. The victim's family should file a wrongful death suit or similar case to hold the family of the murderous driver accountable. After all, the boy didn't own the car so the owners should bear some responsibility for this poor woman's death.

(310 posts)Such a tragedy. I suspect that because of their financial status, they will all walk scott-free.
Stallion
(6,473 posts)the issue is going to be whether the insurance policy excludes liability for under-aged family members. I think insurance will likely be required to provide a defense but eventually exclude coverage leaving parents with the liability

(5,291 posts)I lived on a moderately-busy residential street in LA's View Park neighborhood. One night during Labor Day weekend, I attended a science fiction convention near the airport.
Just before I got home, and would have been pulling my mother's car in from the street (I kept my car, my first, clean and waxed, so I'd get the garage), Ike Turner Jr lost control of his brother's car, going around a mild curve at 90 in a 35mph zone, smashing into my mother's car, sandwiching it between his brother's car and my uncle's, which had been forced up off the curb and. Into a palm tree.
Ike Jr's only concern was about how his brother would react. Ad when my father called the Turner family, the only response they got back was from a paid toady who told them "Ike and Tina are very busy and important people; why are you bothering them?"

(5,291 posts)My uncle's car was not that good to begin with (which was why he'd borrowed my father's for the weekend). My dad passed his car along to his brother.
My dad had a friend who owned a Ford dealership. He bought a mid-level (Granada?) for himself as a compact (Campri?) for my mom.
It wasn't the save. My mother had loved that little car of hers; it was the first new car she'd owned.
For the rest of her life, if the TV started playing Ike & Tina, she'd change the channel, or leave the room.
