Kelly Loeffler no longer WNBA team owner after she angers players with anti-BLM rants

Former Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-GA) has now sold the Atlanta Dream women's basketball team months after she angered her own players after she criticized them for publicly supporting the Black Lives Matter movement.

The Women's National Basketball Association on Friday announced that its board members had unanimously approved a sale of the Atlanta Dream to real estate mogul Larry Gottesdiener, who is buying the team in a joint investment with former Dream star Renee Montgomery and Northland President and Chief Operating Officer Suzanne Abair.

Montgomery is a two-time WNBA champion, and the WNBA notes that she stepped away from the game last year to "focus on social justice issues."

Last year, Loeffler slammed WNBA players for plans to honor Black women who have been killed by police, and she described BLM as a "Marxist group" that "proudly advocates for the defunding of police, calls for the removal of Jesus from churches, supports the disruption of the nuclear family structure, harbors anti-Semitic views and actively promotes violence and destruction across the country."

It was the whole WNBA, especially the players...Black AND White.

“People forget that we’re not the NBA. We don’t just leave in a year of playing. We all have our degrees. We’re all intelligent and strong women,” Washington Mystics guard Natasha Cloud said in January. “When we put our heads together, it’s like, ‘Who’s going to stop us?’ ”
