(11,733 posts)Putting something from CNN on DU, regarding the Proud Boys, will not have the same effect as CNN putting an interview with the Proud Boys leader into the mainstream. Most of us at DU know who the Proud Boys are and know not to listen to or care about what they say. If we do listen to the interview, then we do so with a critical eye.
CNN putting this into the mainstream is potentially dangerous because while the interview may be Cooper wanting to expose the Proud Boys, they give a sense of mainstream legitimacy when they present them. They become newsworthy. People who maybe predisposed to some of their ideas, will now see them platformed on a "liberal" news station and give them another look.
The OP isn't giving anyone free advertising. The OP is showing us what CNN is doing. I didn't click and have no plans to click because I do not care what they have to say and I know what they are about.
