A HUGE gold statue of Donald Trump holding a star wand delighted the CPAC crowds ahead of the former president's comeback speech.
The gold statue is seen wearing a pair of Stars and Stripes shorts, with a suit jacket, white shirt and a tie.
The Trump effigy is also holding what appears to be a magic wand.
Footage shows supporters taking selfies with the statue and watching in awe as it is rolled through the building.

"Two years ago, when I saw all those statues of naked Trump and Trump on a toilet, I said, 'You know what? I can do better,' " Zegan told CNN Friday as attendees gathered around the statue to snap photos with it.
Zegan said the piece on display at CPAC is actually the fiberglass mold of the real, stainless steel sculpture currently stored in a warehouse in Tampa where it awaits a potentially high-profile showcase.
"It is museum-quality, and that's the one I'm eventually hoping to get in the Trump library," Zegan said. "It is literally priceless."

(3,389 posts)It certainly is to me. I wouldn't pay one penny to see that monstrosity...But I'd pay $20 to piss on it...and $50 if you would destroy it!

(32,017 posts)I would definitely pay the $20 to piss on it, but I would not pay to have it destroyed. That would merely deprive all the other good people who also (quite rightly) want to piss on it.

(13,142 posts)We sometimes forget that man does not live by bread alone. Once we have bread, most of us start to want tacky statues that we can take selfies with. We'll even take less bread if it gets us better selfie statues.

(28,979 posts)The statue seems to have been recycled from some Japanese kitsch. I am guessing this as the feet are in flipflops (a clue), and the costume looks like traditional Japanese summer wear painted over.
There are a number of statues in Japan to a beloved bungling cop well known in Japanese culture for his wild arm-flailing and hideous facial gestures. There are statues all over Tokyo to him. Kochikame resembles Trump enough that it may explain why that statue was made.
Often the figures are made with the bronze face like the one of Trump.
I think they have decided Trump looks and acts like this crazy character. I am not sure it's a compliment.

...Same "artist," perhaps? Or maybe they just enrolled in the same art school from a matchbook cover?

(8,524 posts)That statue looks like Bob's Big Boy. It should be holding up over its head a plate with a hamburger on it.

(7,596 posts)To start, its a poor likeness. I dont who the face reminds me of, but it definitely doesnt remind me of the asshole. And wheres his flabby physique? Why are so many of his supporters in denial that hes fat?
The gold is ugly and garish, which I guess is actually appropriate considering the statues subject.
And the artists explanation for what the shorts and sandals are supposed to represent is just idiotic. He also never explained what the wand symbolizes, but Im sure its something totally asinine and insane.

(60,010 posts)but the hair is Elvis style, they missed trump's style by a m ile.
I hope whoever made it got huge bucks and is now laffing all the way to the bank.

(10,036 posts)Actually we never turned out anything so hideous. Nor ever worshipped anything so horrible. What is wrong with these people? Are they really that warped or just that committed to not admit they were wrong, so utterly wrong, to support this evil jackass? Rather than admit it they keep digging deeper. Unfortunately I think they are more than happy with him and so no reason to denounce him.

Sorry if I insulted any preteens.
