Scary Times

This CPAC event makes it very clear the direction the Republicans want to go in. Its also clear that republicans are the thralls of trump and the nazi/white nationalists arm of their political party.

I genuinely worry about 2022 and 2024. I'll freely admit I'm not sure the nation, at least as we have known it, will withstand another long drawn out assault on her public institutions like it has the last several years.

No matter what you say, this is different. We, in our nation's history, have never drifted this far into fascism and religious extremism as we are being pulled today.

If we lose control of the House and Senate and WH over the course of 2022 to 2024 it may legitimately the end of the road for America as we know it. Not saying "its over" I am saying it will look a lot more like "A Handmaid's Tale" than anything else, especially for PoC and the LGBT community.

Hope I'm wrong but I fear I'm not.

it is mostly just a matter of convincing everyone to take election day seriously. 2022 will be tough because of the cycle we all know too well.

confident. It's no longer about governing, the American people, the Rule of law...or anything else, but white men with all the power to do whatever they want, at anyone's expense, with no repercussions. The fact that a political party is so full of horseshit, and it is accepted as perfectly normal, doesn't bode well. They're absolute whack jobs, the whackier the better.

I have the same feeling. The Nazi stage formation made me feel ill. The open hostility to democracy, the open racism. The embrace of lies, the embrace of violence. I don't see how these people can continue to be part of the US political system; they've made it crystal clear they hate the US government. It's a very scary time. I hope we somehow get through it.

It's been replaced by a blood thirsty mob who's scared to admit they lost and they're coming back for more. It's going to get really ugly.

We are living in a time where people are openly embracing fascism and virulent racism. The fact that 75 million Americans thought that Trump deserved 4 more years appalled me. If we lived in a sane society his approval numbers would have been in the single digits. But we don't live in sane times. Even today after all his corruption, all his incompetence and all his cruelty a majority of Republicans think Trump did a great job as President and would vote for him again in 2024. You have no idea how much that fact disturbs me and gives me sleepless nights. I feel like I am living in Germany in 1933. I see white nationalism being seen as "patriotic". I see hate and loathing for "the other". I see religious fanaticism gaining ground and conspiracy theories abounding. I feel that this is our only chance to turn the tide. And if we don't---we are doomed as a nation. This is not hyperbole on my part. This is reality.
So if we want a kinder, gentler society where diversity is prized and human needs are met we having to work like hell over the next 4 years to make sure progressive Democrats get in office and bring about the change we need. Otherwise we are going to end up being a fascist theocracy.

11. You are correct. "Patriot" is now the new word for fascist domestic terrorist, according to the RW.

10. That's why the GOP needs to be put out of power completely and Trump needs to be ruined.

And we need to deal severely with these violent terrorist fascists who are attempting to overthrow our government. They are nothing more than enemy combatants and need to be dealt with as such.

The lines are drawn. We know what they are and what they intend to do. There is little to nothing left to be salvaged out of the current GOP.

We are at war for our country. Enemies of America started this war and we need to finish it.

These are dangerous times, when a huge chunk of the nation is living in an evil fantasy world.

Those of us who realize this isn't an MMORPG or some toxic Reality TV Show have a lot of work to do. We have to keep the 2018 Blue Wave alive and nurture it to new heights. We did well in 2020 to outnumber the MAGATs, but the fight is not over.

All things considered, enough of us engaged in the last mid term to give us the House and in the 2020 we won both the Presidency and the Senate.

Let President Biden (man, I just love typing that) and our legislatures deliver for the American people and make them aware it was us and we can gain even more seats.

The Fascist GOP minority is scared shitless, don't you be.

is vote, donate, make calls, knock on doors, etc. If every person of good conscience was engaged, the fascists wouldn’t stand a chance. It’s up to us, we’re not powerless observers.

First white people’s stranglehold is weakening Georgia and Arizona are evidence of that. Second, younger people do appear to be getting more politically active. Third, democratic policies are gaining support and strength.
