Actually ran a campaign, sending out mailings and everything. He was a reasonable human being, one of us, running a poor person's campaign for president. He had serious ideas, some of which I actually agreed with. He got 241 votes. I wasn't one of them.

Someday a person like Bob ought to be able to get more than 241 votes.

with no real public record up to that point.

If Bob was a local legislator, then maybe ran for governor or mayor of a large city, he'd have more recognition, a base of supporters, and be a bit networked into the larger political sphere--even if he chose to eschew lobbyists' cash and went for a more Wellstonian approach.

It's just more common for someone to start at the bottom and work their way up. Even political neophytes like Ike or Wes Clarke had a public persona and recognized responsibility on a national scale before they jumped into the political pool. They had records, they had to deal with media, they knew how to conduct themselves on the public stage.

He does seem to have a sense of humor, I will give him that.

Craig "Tax Freeze" Freis?

WTF? There should be a rule against candidates using silly made up names like "Tax Freeze".

Are you saying that instead of being a guy named Craig Freis who just calls himself "Craig 'Tax Freeze' Freis", that he literally changed his name to that?

With the quotation marks?
