Bernie: The Wealthiest Family In The Country Refuse To Pay A Living Wage

Feb 26, 2021

Fancy cars. Expensive art. Huge houses. The Waltons – the wealthiest family in the country – spend millions on themselves, but refuse to pay their workers a living wage.

I'm lucky enough to live where there are plenty of options, so I never go there. I found out I haven't been missing anything when I took a relative to one of their pharmacies. The place was a dump. Nothing like the Walmarts I remember from the 90s, which were more like Targets are now.

Look at Jeff Bezos and Amazon ... how is he any better than the Walton family? Maybe we like Bezos' politics a little better, but his employees are mostly "working poor" just like the Walmart employees.

In 2 generations the American middle class has gone from well-off to near-slavery.
Thank you Ronald Reagan!

"Amazon announces $15 minimum wage for all US employees"

If you are going to make demands you can't still be angry when they comply.

Amazon's worst nightmare is a union. A strike at the right location could severely impact their business and they know it. They can afford to pay more than $15 per hour.

Recent news
Walmart announced it will give 425,000 employees a raise, a move that will increase its average pay to above $15 an hour.

I am no fan of walfart but we must be honest. The pressure is working. Now we must get the rest of the greedy American corporations to pay a fair wage and remove their workers from public assistance.

How about a tax if you have workers on public assistance you pay for it.

I don’t begrudge helping the workers with food stamps or healthcare but I do think we shouldn’t have to help these people afford to live. The Waltons should pay a living wage so public assistance is not needed

They will never have to want for anything, but unlike Bill Gates and Warren Buffet, they aren't giving it away, not even to the employees who work hard to earn the money for them.
