Is it just me or does anyone else find her voice very irritating? I like her but her voice grates on my nerves.

I try to tell myself that I'm not watching to hear a soothing voice, but...

Her voice is no more irritating than anyone other women on cable news, I wonder why she's being extrapolated ?!

(102,225 posts)public speaking, I note a lot of what makes my own voice problematic (and it is to me, too) in how she speaks. Some people are more in tune with those aspects of voice/sound. My coach was truly an expert in the tone, tenor, and inflections that can be modified so that (in my case) the audience is listening to your message and not cringing at or trying to analyze your overall voice, accent, or quality of voice.
It really is an issue and I say that not to promote "rodent sex" (not sure at all what that means) or unduly criticize her or anyone else, but to suggest that she and several others on tv programs really could make themselves more effective with some voice work.

(32,633 posts)(I'm a woman so I can say this): When speaking with emotion or anger, our female voices tend to get on the screechy side. It takes special training to avoid that screechy tone, and most tv journalists do learn it in school. A few men have the same problem, however those men aren't professional speakers so it doesn't get noticed as much.
A good example is Rachel Maddow, she has trained herself to speak in such a way as to avoid that annoying tone that hurts one's ears. Rachel keeps her voice in the lower register (I mean pitch, not volume) with a calm non-screechy tone. And yet as good as she is, it's still hard to listen to her for a solid hour.

(6,793 posts)I tried to watch this morning but only lasted two minutes. Making it worse for me is the scratchy cadence that goes along with it. Nothing sexist about it. It hurts my ears. Why should I listen to someone whose voice is unpleasant. I dont care if they are female, male, young, old, black, white, fat, skinny, frogs, birds, coyotes, owls, etc., etc. Stop putting labels on everything. Sometimes things are just annoying.

(10,885 posts)I can take her in small bits, but now that she has her own show, it's too much, too long. That was, in fact, my first thought when I saw her name as a header.
I once made the same comment about Neera Tanden, long before she was Biden's nominee for OMB, and got hammered here on DU because of it. Her voice has the same caustic quality as Cross (to my ears, at least).
Truly, i think some of us are simply more susceptible to high pitched voice and cadence. I'm not debating the material, just the presentation.
