I received two more forwarded emails from a long-time friend who is a Republican, and they were interesting.
The first one, titled "Do you believe in coincidences?" was about the Roswell crash in 1947 and about a dozen prominent Democrats who were born nine months afterwards. [Sigh] It only took a couple of minutes to find out that all but two were born either years before the crash or years after it, but what hit me was that so many people nowadays would probably read something like this and believe it right off the bat. Knowing my friend, I suspect he forwarded it to me as a gag, but the tone of the original email was so serious that I have to believe it was intended to piss people off.
The other one was about old-style simple humor, and the message was, how did we get so serious. This one really got me thinking: how DID we get so serious and angry? Or is it that we only seem to hear about the ones who are?

(66,310 posts)Is a question usually asked by people who have been called out for racist jokes, racist or bigoted behavior, etc.
They use disgusting and demeaning terms, and then blame the listeners for being offended, instead of themselves for being deliberately offensive.
They try to make the offended party the bad guy by claiming that they're oversensitive.
People are people, pretty much the way they've always been. We laugh at things that are funny, and we take offense at things that are offensive.

(7,808 posts)I saw it over 10 years ago. Several prominent Democrats were mentioned, but the only ones I remember are
Al Gore, born 03/31/48 in Washington DC
Barbara Boxer, born 11/11/40 in NY, NY
Not mentioned?
Clarence Thomas, born 06/23/48 in Montgomery, GA
Until I saw that e-mail, sent from one coworker to another coworker (who showed it to me), I was completely unaware of the below-the-radar lies they tell each other and it was shocking to find that out.
Typical for rethugs:

(6,231 posts)One of them was Barack Obama Sr. Yup, senior.
According to that email, Sr. would have been 14 when Jr. was born.
