He doesn't have some sort of copyright on them and I bet he'd be very happy that other Democrats are spreading the word...

(25,456 posts)"Its basic claim is that, from the New Deal through the Great Society, the Democratic Party espoused a set of values defined by, or at the very least consistent with, social democracy or socialism. Then, starting in the 1970's, a coterie of neoliberal elites hijacked the party and redirected its course toward a brand of social liberalism targeted to elites and hostile to the interests of the poor and working class. The first and most obvious problem with this version of history is there is little reason to believe the Democratic Party has actually moved right on economic issues."
New York magazine, "How 'Neoliberalism' Became the Left's Favorite Insult of Liberals"
FDR and LBJ were not socialists. The Democratic Party has not moved right on economic issues. "Neoliberal" is a meaningless insult for Democrats. The end.
Cuthbert Allgood
(4,915 posts)which were not overturned by the Obama administration. We'll see if Biden actually follows through on what it looks like he might do to turn away from neoliberalism.
But, if you really don't think that Clinton (you remember "It's the economy, stupid," right?) built on the economic policies of Reagan instead of turning away from them, you are engaging in some revisionist history yourself.
Also, that's the best you could get from Google in all this time?

(25,456 posts)"In the end, as their representatives in Washington should have known all along, even those voters who revered Ronald Reagan, and cheered on the contract-signing candidates in principle, were not ready, when they learned their freed markets would leave them with sole responsibility for their own fates, to give up their Social Security and Medicare, their public schools, and their government-backed air, water, and earth protections. As important, Bill Clinton's legendary ability to 'triangulate' -- taking on as his own some of the goals they proposed while drawing the line against such extreme measures as a balanced budget amendment -- took the steam out of the House GOP's sails. To be repeatedly outwitted by Clinton, a president the radical right had spent much effort and untold treasure trying to undermine, made the sting of defeat all the more sharp."

treestar

tonedevil
(3,022 posts)by observing that other systems exist where the parties are more narrowly defined and in that system Ocasio-Cortez and Biden would be in different parties. There is nothing in law that creates the defacto two party system we live under. George Washington warned against it as he was leaving office. As it sits there is a significant portion of the country that doesn't feel represented by either party, but must make a choice from the two offerings regardless.

Cuthbert Allgood
(4,915 posts)Biden made it clear he wasn't one of those socialists. Why would he be Labour then? Frankly Labour is a little too center for AOC. Why would they have to be in a major party? What you're asking is pretty silly, almost naively so, all things considered. To those of us who browse the internet "Normally", the OP is perfectly fine and accessible. It shouldn't be the OPs burden to cater to every passing, whimsical and half-imagined fancy of potential readers. (1,954 posts)I'd be lying if I said I knew Twitter's algorithms, I loathe the platform. That said, other platforms I do use promote content based on a large number of fields, and oftentimes simply who has the most followers (or who is 'liked' most rapidly) rises to the top of the pile.
The Tweet itself is also promoting Biden, in the form of a "Retweet". By "Retweeting" Biden, AOC is also throwing a callout to Biden and his declaration herself. It's basically a Twitter way of saying "This is awesome".
Honestly, whether AOC or Biden says it, I don't give a shit. Nor (in my opinion) should anyone else so long as the message gets out there. May 1st, Vaccines for All.
