RE the Asian massage parlor incel

I don’t wonder at all that the first reports had him as a “good church going boy”. The truth is that if he’d just been frequenting prostitution places without the guilt trappings generously ladled on with the “good religious upbringing”, he probably wouldn’t have been inclined to kill anyone, just continue frequenting prostitutes.

And to all of you folks here who are ‘just realizing’ that these Asian massage parlors you’ve driven by every day aren’t legit businesses, I really lack the words. I’m one of the more naive people you’d meet in this world, and I’ve known what they were about since a tender age. Both on the prostitution side and on the human trafficking side.

Republicans have not only known, they endorse the strongest-eat-the-weakest mentality. Payday loan lenders are one of the biggest donors in UT to the Republican Party. Wouldn’t surprise me to find that massage parlers were a close second. As long as they pay the party they will look the other way. This in the pious bastion of Zion.

1. Yup. Media didn't follow up on Trump's massage parlor scandal.

5. Sadly this predates trump.

The whole issue of massage parlors being fronts for prostitution and human trafficking. Drugs too, I’m sure.

There’s tons of money there, and they’ve long paid politicians to look the other way. They’ll probably just rebrand it post-trump, and call it fundraising.

8. Vandalism or secret message, it's not hidden what those places do.

People today feigning ignorance about this is pretty ridiculous.

Not that there aren’t legitimate massage places.

It is part and parcel of the Southern Baptist Church and offshoots.

6. As always it's about who's in charge, and who gets ground under the heel.

White males usually in charge.

How convenient for the perpetually pious.

Women and everybody else have the hierarchy under the heel.

4. An old southern joke:

We do live in the Bible Belt, after all, where the joke is that Jews don’t recognize the Messiah, Protestants don’t recognize the Pope, and Baptists don’t recognize each other in the bordello.

That’s what makes them hit so hard sometimes.

Two women murdered were in their seventies, one in her sixties, and one in her fifties.

13. And the owner was a licensed massage therapist

And one of the victims was a woman there with her husband for a massage.

So I have a hard time believing these were purely sex parlors.

15. I'm not saying that all massage business are brothels.

There certainly are legitimate businesses there, I’ve been to a few.

There are plenty of Asian massage places that are fronts for prostitution and human trafficking. Across all 50 states.

Are you honestly taking issue with my statement that Asian massage parlors are frequently used as fronts for prostitution and human trafficking?

Just because a legitimate massage happens in one part of the building, does that preclude other activities in another room? No.

18. I take issue with you assuming 50 year old Asian women are prostitutes

Asian women already put up with enough shit as it is.
I'm an MD with a specialty in internal medicine, but too often I'm assumed to be a "Navy wife" that my husband must have picked up overseas.

24. If you're personally affected by this as an Asian woman okay.

Tough. Show me where I said “all 50 year old Asian women are prostitutes”. Quit your bullshit.

Are you saying no Asian women over 50 are ever prostitutes? If you’re trying to sell me on that you’re out and out lying. I’ve known several, and no I don’t mean it in that way.

But just because you object to people treating you a certain way because of an assumption doesn’t mean we shouldn’t talk about this. That’s putting your head in the sand.

What I take issue with is you pretending it’s not very commonplace here.

25. According to the Hangook Ilbo local Korean community newspaper

A witness reported that the suspect said "I'm going to kill all the Asians" while he was committing the crime in the Gold Spa. So let's put the victims on trial for prostitution? When you have no idea what the facts were?

21. Not prostitutes

Calling them prostitutes is likely inaccurate. The early information is that all 3 of these places were listed on sites for sex. That makes it very likely these women weren't "prostitutes" but rather victims of sex trafficking forced to work as prostitutes.

But me just using the term “prostitution” or calling them “prostitutes” is incorrect.

Okay

23. Calling them prostitutes is demeaning and likely inaccurate

They are victims of sex trafficking and then of murder. Prostitute is not who they were, but rather something they were forced to do.

32. Your so-called trafficked victim:

Tan emigrated to the United States from China many years ago, and had an adult daughter who recently graduated from the University of Georgia, said friend and customer Greg Hynson.

Hynson, 54, said he had been seeing Tan as his massage therapist for a stiff neck and upper back for about six years. They both live in the area and had become good friends, he said.

“She was the sweetest person you’d ever meet," he told USA TODAY. "My heart was in my throat the second I heard of it. It still doesn’t seem real."

Hyson said Tan, who was known by friends as Emily, was a hardworking small-business owner. He said she always had a kind word for friends. Last October, she had a cake waiting for him on his birthday when he came to the spa.

Hyson, who runs a rubber supply company started by his father, said Tan's staff usually lived at her large nearby home when they first arrived from China, and seemed focused mostly on earning money for their families. He said Feng had only recently started working at the spa.”

Hyson angrily rejected speculation Tan's spa was providing sex services. The suspect in the fatal shootings told authorities he blamed the massage businesses for providing an outlet for his addiction to sex.

"You're coming here to get a massage. All these girls that have worked for her over the years are working for her on their own free will," he said. "They’re here for a better life. They’re diligent and work hard and all the money they make is going toward a better life for their family.”
