Barack Obama Praises Joe Biden’s Decision To Get Out Of Afghanistan

Former President Obama praised President Biden for making the right decision and removing US troops from Afghanistan after twenty years.

In a statement provided to PoliticusUSA, President Obama said:

President Biden has made the right decision in completing the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan. Today, we should pause to pay tribute to the extraordinary sacrifices of the Americans who have served in our longest war, as well as their families. We also honor the allies who served alongside us and the Afghan people who have suffered so much in pursuit of a better future for their country. It has been a long and arduous struggle in Afghanistan, rooted in our response to the deadliest terrorist attack on the U.S. homeland in our history. American troops, diplomats, and development workers can take pride in their efforts to deliver justice for 9/11, destroy al Qaeda’s safe-haven, train Afghan Security Forces, and support the people of Afghanistan.

Since we began to draw down U.S. forces in 2011, the United States made clear to the Afghan government that we would be gradually transitioning responsibility for security while creating time and space for efforts to improve governance and pursue diplomacy. Nearly a decade later, it is time to turn the page to the next chapter of our relationship with Afghanistan. There will be very difficult challenges and further hardship ahead in Afghanistan, and the U.S. must remain engaged diplomatically and through our development efforts to support the Afghan people, particularly those who have taken extraordinary risks on behalf of human rights. But after nearly two decades of putting our troops in harm’s way, it is time to recognize that we have accomplished all that we can militarily, and that it’s time to bring our remaining troops home. I support President Biden’s bold leadership in building our nation at home and restoring our standing around the world.

The Lindsey Grahams and Tom Cottons of the political world hate this decision, but the reality is that outside of the pro-war faction of the Republican Party, the American people are tired, and want the troops to come home.

The term endless war is overused, but in the case of Afghanistan, the United States would have been waiting forever for the perfect time to leave. President Obama was right. There are challenges ahead in Afghanistan, but it time to bring America’s troops home and turn the page because that is the only way to tackle the future.

Ask Dick Cheney. Were the Afghanis behind 911? No, that was the Saudis. Was Saddam behind 911?
Same answer. OBL was a Saudi. So the longest US war comes to an end, many died for what again?
Okay, I was pretty upset when the Taliban blew up ancient Buddhist statues. Do other nations invade
the US when white cops run wild or when trumpies attack the Capitol?
It's long past time to withdraw from Afghanistan. We should never have been there at all.

Deobandi is more common in Afghanistan and I'm not very familiar with the sect but the Wahabbi ideology the reason why they blow up things like Buddhist statues is they take no idolatry to prevent idolatry.

Saudi Arabia does the same in their own country.

Saudi Arabia Bulldozes Over Its Heritage

For centuries the Kaaba, the black cube in the center of Mecca, Saudi Arabia that is Islam’s holiest point, has been encircled by arched porticos erected some three centuries ago by the Ottomans, above dozens of carved marble columns dating back to the 8th century. But earlier this month, any vestiges of the portico and columns were reduced to rubble, cleared to make way for the Saudi government’s expansion of Mecca’s Grand Mosque.

The $21 billion project, launched in 2011, is designed to meet the challenges of accommodating the millions of pilgrims who visit Mecca and Medina every year. Around 2 million currently visit during Hajj alone, the annual pilgrimage that happens during the last month of the Islamic calendar. But activists charge that the recent destructions are part of a much wider government campaign to rub out historical and religious sites across the Kingdom.

Over the last few years, mosques and key sites dating from the time of Muhammad have been knocked down or destroyed, as have Ottoman-era mansions, ancient wells and stone bridges. Over 98% of the Kingdom’s historical and religious sites have been destroyed since 1985, estimates the Islamic Heritage Research Foundation in London. “It’s as if they wanted to wipe out history,” says Ali Al-Ahmed, of the Institute for Gulf Affairs in Washington, D.C.

Though the Saudi rulers have a long history of destroying historical sites, activists say the pace and range of destruction has recently increased. A few months ago, the house of Hamza, the Prophet Muhammad’s uncle, was flattened to make way for a Meccan hotel, according to Irfan Al Alawi, executive director of the Islamic Heritage Research Foundation. There have even been rumored threats to Muhammad’s tomb in Medina and his birthplace in Mecca.

I do think there was collusion with Saudi Arabia, The Taliban, and likely Pakistan or there was officially before 9/11.

It is definitely time to get out. I always opposed the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. The Biden/Harris administration saying "enough is enough" in Afghanistan is a positive sign.
