But had he been home, he would not have said a word. Racist cowards will bully one on one but they need to have a bigger group backing them to confront another group.

I'm sure the solidarity made that young man realize that plenty of people got his back. Good show of support.

(90,225 posts)... trespassing if they don't
I agree with the sentiment but not the actions
That all could have been done from the side walk

(2,686 posts)And did someone tell them to move on? (That I doubt. Even a racist South Carolina will be reluctant to take on a peaceful crowd of African Americans. Hell, I would!)
The only disagreement I would have with the action -- other than them staying off of the property -- would be noise. But I think if the crowd was chanting BLM slogans, I would have rushed outside . . . and joined them.

(16,911 posts)If he was home, they would be on the sidewalk & street. No need to give this racist a reason to get his guns out.

(2,686 posts)You dont invade a mans space. You just dont. Fortunately the fool and his mate had already been spirited away to a safe place or someone might have gotten shot.
Step on his lawn, walk onto his driveway, all he owes you is a verbal request to get the hell off his property. If you dont abide, youre trespassing and liable to suffer violent consequences -- which it would be hard for any state to use against the fool because he would be seen as defending his turf and family.

(26,177 posts)It just seems odd that someone still planning on more years of service, knowing their duty station will be changed, would buy what looks like a pretty substantial home. If he was just transferred, last year, I'd guess he could have had another 2 or 3 years at that duty station.
So, say, he enlisted at 18. He's now 42. So, 24 years in. The Army and Air Force still have 20 years as retirement age. Navy and Marines have 30 years. He could very well have been looking at retiring and, possibly, 'double dipping' with another government job. Admittedly, I don't know if that's still allowed, but I knew people who were actually working on 'triple dipping' with government jobs. (Retired military, retired civil service, and then taking another governmental job.)
I guess what I'm saying is, this behavior could possibly have torpedoed everything, for him and his family.
