Seeing some of the interviews of the Speaker, Members like Mr Crow and the police Lt who was in assaulted in the battle, listened to the Congressman Kildee interview, I realized how truly fucked the staff on the Hill is. They really are second class citizens.
The House and Senate Leaders had protective teams covering them, the Rank and File Members of Congress had the Capitol Police lead them to safety at an undisclosed location, the staff on the other hand was Fucked. Left behind with no clue of how to get to safety. Watching the older African American Cafeteria worker talking about how he was told people were in the building was troubling. Hiding under tables, behind closed doors hoping for the best, but that is all they could do, hope.
The AOC crew had the joy of cleaning up chemicals, urine, shit, trash, broken parts of history, flags, fire extinguishers, water bottles, clubs, bars.... who knows what. They worked all night trying to clean and repair the building so that the Electoral Votes could be counted.
Then they have to go back to a building where a large minority of people who worked there support those who attacked the building and its employees, they return to a building where a large minority of people do not care for their safety, they return to work fearing it could occur again, or something similar could happen again.
The Capitol was always a difficult place to work but after seeing clips of the crowd screaming for the blood of the scum that work in there Kill them all kill the suits and Fox News, the Former President and their ilk gaslighting, the Insurrectionists walking away from the Capitol, judges letting these armed attackers out to await trial, I dont know how anyone can go back to work, yet they do. The staff takes a lot of shit, but they are incredibly dedicated, and soldier on.

Dan Kildee talks about healing from the trauma of the raid on the U.S. Capitol by rioting Trump supporters and how seeing his Republican colleagues vote in support of the big lie that motivated the mob makes it difficult to see them as working partners in governance now. (35,619 posts)I didnt know the staff had been left on their own. And yes, to have to go back to work while a Matt gaetz or a Marjorie Taylor Green parades around is galling, to say the least.
Where did you get this info?
Andy Kim, a representative from my state of nj, stayed there all night cleaning up. I didnt know aoc did also.

(8,318 posts)Mr Kim was incredible as he worked next to the people left to clean the mess that the insurrectionists made.
Info was first hand not from any news source.
