happy with three guilty verdicts in the Chauvin trial. What would you think if the verdicts were three non-guilty?

(12,286 posts)This verdict still doesnt mean the justice system is just.
There is relief but little to celebrate.

(115,659 posts)he wanted the trial itself to deliver more than it could. I think it will take a lot more than one successful conviction of a bad cop to fix a badly broken law enforcement system. If that was his meaning I do agree.

There is plenty of time to bemoan the inequality of this all. But right now, I'm going to celebrate.
These victories give us strength and sustenance to continue the fight and I'm going to drink it up.

(8,657 posts)I do get the point that this probably isnt a major turning point but he seemed to imply that this conviction essentially meant absolutely nothing. I dont agree. This has to have impact on police forces around the country. They will now think twice before using deadly force.

Others were interviewed and they had different reactions. I think we viewers got a chance to hear multiple points of view.

(63,828 posts)I heard him too. Jason was trying to say, there are many other cops who killed unarmed black men and women who were not not held accountable.
But I will take this as a win win for justice.

Yes I'm white-splainin' but his reaction was disappointing
I wonder why he's bitter?
And yes, as a black man, you're whitesplaining is not particularly interesting to a lot of people who look like me.

(18,486 posts)But it's not an either/or. I can be frustrated that we have so far to go. But today, I am rejoicing that we took this step.

(2,008 posts)He was emphasizing that he was not happy. It took basically a televised murder for the verdict to go this way.
Count me another white-splainer, but I just wanted him to acknowledge that this result was better than the alternative. However small the victory, it is a teeny tiny step i the right direction. He was understandably focused on the many many miles yet to go.

That's a good thing. Of course it shouldn't have had to come to this but it did, but now we go forward and cops will be under more scrutiny than they've ever been. They'll be more careful now that they know they can be convicted for murdering POCs.

(32,677 posts)This is a victory. And yes it's sad that other cases have not resulted in justice being served, but that's a separate discussion for another time. I was VERY concerned that there was going to be a holdout or two in the jury.
