1. His and Giuliani's Supporters Do Not Know the Law

I assume he made that statement because he knows that his supporters and Giuliani's supporters do no know the law. Also, he will not be called out by Republican supporting media shows. As a result, his supporters and Giuliani's supporters will believe what he said. That statement was made for his base; not for anyone who understands the law.

2. It's not hard to figure out.... It's consciousness of guilt and knowing who can expose his misdeeds.

Dersh and Epstein, Epstein and Trump. When Trump gets exposed, he burns down the world around him, for distraction and out of petulance. So anything which risks exposing Trump is bad for Dersh.

And Joyce knows this. She's not actually unaware of why Dersh would make such a "mistake."
