"Given that Montgomery has repeatedly and flagrantly violated both state and federal law while on pretrial release in this case including by possessing and using a firearm the Government respectfully requests that the Court revoke his release pending trial," prosecutors said in the motion.

Why anyone would think that an insurrectionist would respect the terms of bail is beyond me. If any of them actually understood that actions have consequences they would not be traitors...
Why any of them are out on bail is beyond me.

Apparently, this guy is both evil and stupid. He was convicted for a series of armed robberies in 1996, so he knows the repercussions of breaking the law. Yet he flaunts his behavior as if daring the authorities to lock him up. Meanwhile, I wonder how many other wild animals this man has killed over the years. There is something truly perverse about people who shoot animals and then pose with the dead carcasses, as if they did something brave and gallant.
I hope he gets prosecuted for killing the mountain lion as well as violating the terms of his bail release.

Things are rarely so simple as to be explained "in one word".
OldBaldy1701E
(5,112 posts)You even mention that white boy Kyle is out on bail. The question was why were any of them out on bail, yes? Regardless of anything they did, they were not and are not being treated as if they are the level of criminals that they are. Because, if they had been initially treated that way, there would be a lot less of them around to prosecute. Amazing that five cops can kill one black guy and it takes a society in chaos to get anything approaching justice done, but these people (how many indicted now... 406?) literally tried to overthrow the elected government and murdered people while attempting it. And, they get to go on vacation. What is the difference between George Floyd and Q-Anon Shaman? I can see it pretty easily... do you?
Also, I explain the lunacy in our society in one word: Republican. Are you saying that doesn't explain it?

Yes, women participated, and yes, women also way too often get released when they shouldn't. And also, there are many white males who are decent human beings. But, on sheer arrogance, the bell curve for white males shifts noticeably to the right.
OldBaldy1701E
(5,112 posts)One would think I should be outraged about that statement. But, then there is reality, which, unlike a lot of white males, I do not try to ignore or hide from. You are correct in what you say.

(1,666 posts)...a lot of these gun people have looked at these scenarios since red flag laws became a thing, and are smart enough to not store all their guns in one place. Since we dont have federal registration of all guns (and they would never register them all for this exact reason) the best we can do is raid their house and place of employment.
That is why I say dont let any of these fuckers out before trial.
Also why I say red flag laws need to be updated (if they are not already) forcing a person to sign a document saying they have turned them all in under penalty of a Mandatory 10 years per gun and per bullet they are found with after signing the document.

It would be unusual for a judge to order pre-trial jail for a misdemeanor level charge. And lets face it, trump appointed a lot of federal judges and some are sympathetic to the accused.

These people seem to enjoy eating anything they kill - gators, snakes, bears...whatever walks, crawls, flies or swims - but I've never heard of humans consuming mountain lions. Perhaps "consuming" means hunters can feed the lion meat to their dogs.

The number of bears, cougar, bobcat, wolf, and coyotes killed every year in America for sport would appal you.
Here in WA, they have professional bear hunters who kill bears coming out of hibernation on commercial forest land, because they'll strip bark off timber to get at the sap - and damage the tree. "Resource Protection". One bear tore a hunter's arm off a few years back.

(6,178 posts)EVERY day we hear via our police and EMS scanner local police take people into custody with outstanding warrants only to have the jails refuse to take them. Although we have no way of knowing the number of empty jail cells my guess is they are at full capacity. Our courts are backlogged and crimes are getting worse.
Guns on our streets are now an increasing problem. Home invasions are no longer a rarity. Drug use and manufacturing is a major contributor. And now its deaths due to street drug overdoses are also on the rise. Meth laced with fentanyl has now brought on deaths due to irreversible overdoses.
When we moved here we never had to lock our houses or our cars. That is no longer the case.
And let's not blame the Covid pandemic.
The increasing problems have been building over the last 15-20 years.
Elessar Zappa
(13,941 posts)is actually the lowest its been since the early 60s. Crime started increasing in the late 60s and peaked in the mid 90s. Its sharply declined since, with murder at a much lower rate. NYC had 2200 murders in 92 while in recent years they rarely crack 400. And thats the case in most places although where you live may be an exception. People typically view the past with rose-colored glasses on this issue, believing that the present is inherently more dangerous. One example is parents being afraid beyond reason of child abduction when the truth is that kids are safer than ever. Crime did increase some due to COVID but not a lot. I did a large research project on the issue so I know what Im talking about.

I'm kind of ambivalent about bail v remand for them. The downside(s) of bail are many, and the arguments well-founded, but at least the taxpayer isn't paying for their pretrial waiting, and - given this case as a perfect example - they are also being given enough rope to hang themselves.
