Blinken said he personally has not seen any Israeli evidence of Hamas operating in the building and has asked Israel for justification for the strike.
Shortly after the strike we did request additional details regarding the justification for it, Blinken said from Copenhagen, Denmark. He declined to discuss specific intelligence, saying he will leave it to others to characterize if any information has been shared and our assessment that information.
But he said, I have not seen any information provided.

(13,037 posts)that he has held for so long, but now he has got a reprieve because of this conflict. But I'm not sure if it is accurate to say that Bibi started it. Didn't Hamas start firing missiles at innocent Israeli citizens before the IDF started bombing Gaza? Didn't the IDF attack in response to missiles being fired at Israeli territory?

(11,095 posts)provocation (mostly in Jerusalem?) on both parts? I think you're right in questioning (or posing the question) that Netanyahu actually "started" this latest exchange.
(on the other hand, a record of belligerent and bellicose behavior on the part of his government(s) is pretty well established history)

My guess is the political benefit is just a bonus for him. They've been planning this for a long time

(13,037 posts)They would be fools not too. They live in a very dangerous neighborhood. And what about Hamas. They have also been making preparations. Ever since the last conflagration in 2014 Hamas has been expanding their network of tunnels and stockpiling missiles and other arms.

Taking full and strategic advantage of a 'provocation' (perhaps even providing one?) is a recognized and time honored tradition.
