cliffordu lost his battle w als on feb 10 of this year.
i got close to cliff on fb a few years ago, and we were planning how to get together when he started getting sick.
i posted a few threads here about his dx, and his battle at the time.
i did get to meet him in the brief period when he was living an apt w a caregiver, but he soon returned to the va hospital in portland.
he got married while there, and his wife louise was at his side every day thereafter.
i think she was a sweetheart from his past but i never did find out.
als has been determined to be a service related disability, so he was able to get good care.
he was an amazing person, poet, musician and friend.
he was also a handsome devil.
i miss him and think of him often, but esp today.

I remember his presence here, but that's the extent of it. Your remembrance and stories bring him to life for me.
Thank you.

(70,086 posts)so stubborn. in a good way.
he wanted to just give up at first, and "die on my feet", but in the end he stubbornly cling to every day.

Everyone was so kind. It meant more than I can say.
He wasn't a DUer, but he did enjoy reading some of the posts. "That's savage; I like it."

(5,897 posts)ALS is one of those conditions where its automatically considered service connected, so if youre a veteran or you know one, please make sure you apply for VA disability.
Im very sorry about your friend.

(111,249 posts)He was a great poster while he was with us. I'm sorry that I didn't know his diagnosis, sorry I didn't know he died from it. I lost a cousin to ALS about 10 years ago, it's a miserable way to leave life.
He will be missed.

For years he moved only by bike and completed cross country trips.
It was a privilege to know him in real life.
Mopinko went out of her way to help him when he was in desperate straights. She is among the best of us.

(70,086 posts)those that were there were so good to him.
he was delivering food by bike before he got sick, trying to get in shape for a cross country ride.
that was when we were going to meet. and i was gonna kidnap him and keep him in chi.
i lifted his spirits in my week w him, tho. i've never met a more tender soul.
re your comments, i dont think i deserve them, there are so many here who do so much more than i, but i thank you from the bottom of my heart. coming from you i am blushing and it's getting dusty in here.
