Arizona "audit" looking for someone to read 50,000 Braille ballots - CNN

No link. Part of a report on air by Kyung Lah. She’s been there for weeks doing excellent reporting.

Apparently Cyber Ninja says they are near the end of this fraudit but they have 50,000 ballots in Braille. They need someone who can read Braille* which can’t be very hard to find seeing as how 50,000 people in Maricopa county voted using it. They’ve known about these ballots from the beginning , according to Lah, but they never got around to preparing to review them.

*I’m guessing regular Braille not contracted or UEB.

in my family.

But isn’t Braille raised text? If so, shouldn’t a person who isn’t blind immediately see how a person that is blind voted?

Once you’ve figured out how one works the others should follow. Also, I think you still vote with an ink pen not a stylus (it makes the bumps by hand).

Braille is actually very simple - sets of 10 - and with a cheat card a sighted person could figure it out pretty easily.

There are 6 dots
1-4
2-5
3-6

A-J is 10 letters. In numbers A is 1, I is 9, J is 0

A is the 1 dot
One row below - K is the 1 and 3. L is the same as B but with a 3 dot
Next row U is A with a 3 and a 6. That line follows with 3 and 6s. W is an outlier because there was no W in the French alphabet when Braille invented it. He was 13 years old by the way.

Do you know why “r” was chosen as the mirror image for “w”? Looking at the system, it seems the easiest to use.

On edit, I noticed that “p” and “v” are mirrors.

I have a cousin who is legally blind. When we were kids, he told me, "I have a book that you can't read." He is 4 yrs older than me, but I'm an Aspie with hyperlexia, so I haughtily told him I could read anything he could. He handed me the book. Dots on a page. Then he took the book back from me and read me the story. Being an Aspie, I immediately became obsessed with learning to read Braille. My aunt was kind enough to type out the Braille alphabet with the letters underneath them. I never learned to read while using only my fingers, but I did learn to recognize the letters by sight. It would go slowly, but it's doable.

Ballots are printed in a specific order for each precinct or voting district. Each ballot is printed with the specific precinct or voting district on it. The same would apply for those that are blind. Although I believe they use special machines to cast the ballot. Either way when the ballot is marked the mark would be for one person.

there would be only a minimum number of rotations and there would be a key to identify that rotation on the ballot.

And the purpose of including a key would be to make fraud even more difficult by outsiders.

50,000 ballots in braille means 50,000 blind people they could ask to read them.

I am sure there probably are a couple of blind Republicans or Qanon's who would be happy to count votes.

My blind friend is going to laugh her ass of when I tell her about this.

Maricopa County is 4.5 Million people.
The blind and low vision community is usually about 1% so 50,000 is about right. That is a high turnout for that group.

PHOENIX — The hand recount of 2.1 million ballots from the 2020 Maricopa County election has been completed, an Arizona Senate spokesman said Monday.

Three boxes of Braille ballots — about 50 to 60 in total — were left to be counted along with large-type, overseas military and duplicated ballots but all others had gone through the process, which began April 23.

https://ktar.com/story/4496413/recount-done-for-2-1-million-ballots-in-audit-of-maricopa-county-election/

I think someone may have gotten that number wrong to come up with 50,000 braille ballots. Maybe they're counting all, including large-type, overseas military and duplicated ballots.

I doubt very much that there were 50,000 braille ballots in Maricopa County.
