A video posted on YouTube shows four combat Marines urinating on the corpses of three dead men in Afghanistan, a U.S. military official told NBC News on Wednesday.
"It should be pretty easy" to identify the Marines in the video, said one official, and those involved "will be held accountable for their actions."
The video, posted on YouTube, shows the four Marines, in full combat gear, standing in a semi-circle over three bodies and one or two can clearly be seen urinating on the corpses.
As the video closes one of the Marines appears to say, "Golden F....... showers."

(5,604 posts)in context, this is nothing nothing new. Its been done in every field of combat since the dawn of time. At least they're not collecting ears, or taking skulls home for trophies, and just imagine what the 'enemy' does to Our troop's bodies when we can't get them outta there in time. I'm not excusing, endorsing or blaming the soldier(s) in question. The fact: there is nothing noble about war, war is not the way see it on the big screen, and that combatants on all sides, (especially ours) are bred to be a different breed: killers, not builders of society, but just calculating killers. They are bred to do a job: Our bidding. If we are are so horrified, maybe we should think twice before deploying them.

You should have said there is nothing noble about the modern western idea of "total war".

Gee, how much "national security" has the US gained overall from Obama's precious decade-long war?
Why do I call it "Obama"s War"? Because he wanted it all along and actively promoted it and has intensified it.

(20,600 posts)Taken in isolation, it sounds like a horrible thing. But what if those marines had just lost one of their best friends to an IED the day or week before? Seen in that light, while their action is still repulsive, it does seem a little more comprehensible.

(8,020 posts).. the people of this country have no fucking idea what war is really about.
Pissing on their dead...? You think that's the worst..?
You think their moms taught them to do that..?
Nope...WE did.
WE are the ones who have made a society so involved in war/death/revenge that pissing on the dead is nothing! We have killed hundreds of thousands... actually, millions... of innocents in our march to Empire. Hell, we killed innocents today!
We have to stop being an Empire. We have to stop putting our people in these situations. We have to stop making so many veterans.

(5,604 posts)with everything you said, but I'd like to add/mention that war is an export, but death and revenge are domestic too. IE prison industrial complex, eye for an eye mentality legalities, persecution and prosecution vs rehabilitation etc. I'm just pointing out that march towards 'empire' starts at home. Maintaining our uber-consumeristic lifestyles starts at home. So the rot starts here, and we export our rotting values and ideals overseas. We call it spreading democracy and free market capitalistic freedom, they see us as invaders.

(29,257 posts)The American people THEMSELVES have done the equivalent, and worse, of pissing on the dead.
In the name of their freedoms, they have killed children, raped women, tortured, destroyed families for generations and ruined entire countries. In doing so, they have pissed on their victims and the thousand year old cultures of the people they victimized.
The fact that they are IGNORANT of doing so, largely, is no excuse.
I cite the Germans in WW2. It is NO DIFFERENT.
One day, people will rightly ask if Americans KNEW about what was being done by their country and there will be no defense, like the Germans might have made, that it was being done in secret.
Americans knew and know about it -and it continues. They are guilty and have no right to criticize Iran, China, N. Korea, Libya or anywhere on the planet given the degree of their crimes.
Sorry, but that is how I see it.
It was being done in my name and that is why I left the US and will renounce my citizenship this year. I could not stomach it being done with my tax money any longer.
It enrages me as you can see... sorry for the rant.

on edit: Not trying to excuse the Marines. This was a really fucking stupid thing to do.
