Pets are part of a family and mourning their loss can be extremely difficult.

I bet the move was a bit much for that grand old dog. R.I.P. and condolences to the POTUS and FLOTUS.

I expect Major may end up getting a little buddy in the future.

“It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life, gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are.”

No matter the dog or the owner or how many dogs/buddies you've had.

The end is the worst part of having pets in your life. Been there, done that.

Condolences to the Biden family.

daughter lost two dogs. She was crying on the phone and I told her about the childhood dog she and the other kids had and how awful it was when we lost her. I never thought I'd grieve so badly...

But the animals become part of the family and the loss and missing presence really stings. Our first Bernese Mountain dog was about as goofy as they come. But she was a sweet girl who was a constant presence while we dealt with our younger son's near fatal accident, my father's death and a job transfer to a place I never wanted to live.

She knew we were tense and sad and was even more loving and protective during that time. When we had to euthanize her for cancer, I sobbed the way I would have for one of my kids. My friends and neighbors thought I was losing it. Every time a dog food commercial came on, I cried. LOL. Sounds crazy now but she was the only constant during 3-4 years of absolute turmoil.

And she was a beautiful baby. Breena. Her name means 'black beauty.' She was that and more. Still miss her.

I suspect there will be tears and sadness in the Biden household today. They had Champ for many years.

Sorry for you own loss and your daughter's. It definitely hurts.

It is paid in tears, grief, and mourning.

I know our lost dogs - all the many of them - will be there on the sunny side of The Bridge to welcome him.
