Does anyone remember from their Boy Scout days - Pee Wee Harris and reading Boys Life - what that pacing was called?

(1,109 posts)From the New York Times by way of the googles:
Run, Walk, Run (dated 8 June 2009) :: To the Editor:
I read Better Running Through Walking (Well, June 2) and remembered a requirement for advancement in the Boy Scouts handbook, 60-odd years ago. This was a technique called Scouts Pace. It was designed to sustain a steady pace of five miles per hour without tiring. You ran 25 or 50 steps running at a trot and then 25 or 50 paces walking. The system worked then, and this similar system seems to work now. What goes around, comes around. (by Ronald B. Berggren, M.D. of Galena, Ohio)

(1,109 posts)I surmise you proceed-along in that 'run-walk-run' format from where you begin to where you end.

(25,224 posts)One used this pace to get somewhere quickly without getting exhausted. It is somewhere between jogging and walking.
