The Commander-in-Chief is in charge of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and all military.

So, if the nation was under threat, why did he not consult the Joint Chiefs of Staff?

Why did he call the Proud Boys, the 3-Percenters, the Oath Keepers, and Q to come and help him?

Many of them said they came to Washington because he asked them to. He was their Commander-in-Chief.

Did it never cross their minds that he had the entire military at his disposal? Why would he call them? What could they do that the US Military could not do? I suppose they could follow illegal orders?

Now knee jerk, whackadoodle, over the top panicked thinking...that seems highly possible. In consultation of course with the finest legal and constitutional minds-- Guiliani, Powell, Miller, Bannon, et. al.

I think your very last question is the key-- they could and would follow illegal orders. The military would have stood down and respectfully declined to comply. God bless them!

could do some serious damage. They have unlimited resources. The bloated military budget is why we don't have Medicare for all and free 4 years college tuition or other training that would lead to gainful employment. . Who will the vast majority of the military get behind, the elected leader or a disgruntled ego maniac, cheesy, second hand reality TV performance artist?

But, a tyrant would only need one General that was willing to command a battalion to surround the Capitol and to halt all government functions. If that were to happen, the rest of the military would be frozen into inaction. They would not disobey what they thought was a legal order. It is not impossible.

...because he was shielded from them from birth. The way he was raised warped how he sees the world, likely caused him to develop multiple mental health issues and an inability to feel real emotion beyond the immediate like a toddler.

If he was allowed to, he would totally use a nuke on US soil over California. He absolutely would and he would not think twice about it or feel any sense of shame or loss at the destruction. He would think “finally that annoyance is over, I can move on with life”. Only he would not think that in that cohesive way; it would be way more jumbled up.
