A quote from Sun Tzu

“Know the enemy and know yourself; in a hundred battles you will never be in peril. When you are ignorant of the enemy, but know yourself, your chances of winning or losing are equal. If ignorant both of your enemy and yourself, you are certain in every battle to be in peril.”

our battles typically won and lost by narrow margins, our great weakness is still those who know neither themselves nor their enemy.

Reminds me that someone misapplied the term "the base" the other day to noisy people who don't know who we are but are sure we have to change, even while our citadel is under heavy attack from a true enemy.

Uh-uh. The base is those who know who they are, what they're for and against, and who they have to stop.
