Particularly for those on a fixed income, it's getting bad.

(112,123 posts)The good news is that it looks like we will be seeing a large COLA for Social Security this year. I read that it should be on the order of a 5% increase.

(3,266 posts)the canned vegetables aisle at WallyWorld is fully stocked again, but the prices were really high for Walmart. Seems like staples are going up - butter, milk, eggs, cheese - and TP, too.

(33,310 posts)There's nothing I can do about it.
Gas has nearly doubled in cost; transportation drives up wholesale cost and it is passed along.
Plus Covid.
Plus drought.
I'd wager it's added $20 to my regular $100 grocery trip - since the vaccines have started.

(20,629 posts)the other day. Small bags that used to sell for $1.59 were suddenly $2.99. I actually looked next door at the Petsmart, and those bags were still under $2 there, so I'm not sure what Target was trying to pull.

(33,643 posts)There is DEFINITELY less stuff on sale every time I've gone lately. Those sale prices do seem pretty similar to what I recall in the past for the same products, maybe 10-15% more ... but there's a lot less sale priced items in any given trip.
Used to seem like 1/3 of the store was on sale, now it's more like 10%. And I always go Fri-Sun when the sales run.

(11,296 posts)with us. Hard to imagine a world in which food production (and distribution) becomes less expensive given current trends.
(true, smart planning and decisions could help 'mitigate' - but that's about the best I can envision for now.)

(13,568 posts)And so I urge anyone who is being negatively affected by these prices to seek out their local food bank.
The food is freely available to anyone.
We've been through a pandemic and the first scrum of a Civil War. Take care of yourself. Staying well nourished is really important.
And if you can donate to a food bank, do. And remember, they also take donations of pet foods.
