(31,972 posts)Covid is not spread in outdoor environments. At the Indy 500, 135,000 people showed up. It was the largest event held in the world since the pandemic began. It was predicted to be a "super spreader". They tracked the cases. How many? A grand total of 19. And they are not sure if those came from the event itself.

Start a New party or figure out how to get rid of the crazy, dangerous people from their party.

(32,078 posts)They have been claiming that Climate Change is fake since the 1990s. They have been chiseling away at our democracy since the Reagan Error. The "Sovereign Citizens" have long been part of the party. Trump just gave them permission to crawl out from under their rocks. As for COVID, it's not surprising their followers think that's a hoax, since they've been demonizing science for over 30 years. Even longer when it comes to Evolution.

Both would seem to fit Trump's raging, destructive followers. They've also become increasingly like a totalistic cult spread to giant size by mass communications, and we know suffering from, to their minds, breakdown of their society and institutions.
It'd be interesting if someone who's studied in this area weighed in.
This craziness has made me wonder if perhaps nature tends to cause humans to self destruct and move on when they, what?, become too settled for too long? We have it so good, even with all our problems. Could a long era of safety and comfort trigger something like this?
