General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsSunrise Movement just stole Pete Buttigieg & Pres Biden's Climate Corps.
Biden commended & approved Buttigieg's Nat'l Service Policy Plan for a Civilian Climate Corps. In January, Sunrise tried to take credit for it. And then a few days ago they staged a protest against Biden, demanding that he do the thing he already said he was doing, and their protest got a bunch of their Sunrise members arrested
Climate Corps was right there in Buttigiegs National Service plan.
Perhaps Momentum Movement could acknowledge this rather than sending their Sunrise youth Movement out to the streets & waiting media, & claming credit for something that was long written into a thorough policy plan be Pete Buttigieg, back in 2019.

Buttigieg introduces national service plan
The Navy veteran has emphasized national service as a way of bringing Americans together.

Seems to be a pattern with this youth movement..

Lying to deceive well-meaing suckers seeking a cause to join is such a common power-seeking tactic that I learned to take an immediate hard look at ANY "reform" movement or politicians. Reeealy?
By definition, if wannabe leaders on any side are lying as a main strategy -- which is easy for truth-seekers to check, they're dirty as hell and need "reforming" right out of politics. And the leaders behind Sunrise are lying as a main strategy.

(58,785 posts)They are also not, and never have been, on the Democrats' "side." Many of them openly refuse to vote for Democrats and encourage others not to also, others just push, push, push hostile messages. They're on their own side, which is neither Democratic nor Republican.
Power-seekers like these wouldn't have followers if more people knew to examine behaviors, not just listen to high-minded siren songs designed to draw them in. After all, would real climate warriors or "progressives" throw the nation to a Republican Party determined to dismantle all climate action and progressive programs? Would they try to defeat Democrats instead of fighting with?

(25,122 posts)The point is U.S. politics -- Republicans make it dysfunctional. Democrats are the environmentalists, always have been. Not a "both sides" thing. That's punching to the Left. This is a forum for Democrats.

You're correct, and it's a pity some seem feel the need to trash Democrats instead of supporting them.

(67,782 posts)....for their public demonstrations. It's not unlike many other "youth movements" we've seen in the past here and in other countries.
This same organization famously staged a demonstration outside Nancy Pelosi's office in November 2018, led by a member of congress. They demanded that a climate committee, Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming, which was disbanded years before, be revived.
Unmentioned was that weeks before Speaker Pelosi had already announced she was reviving it.
Then, when Pelosi asked that member of congress to be a part of the select committee the response was, "I'm too busy".
It should also be noted that Sunrise Movement is a "Carey" committee, a hybrid PAC and Super PAC:

https://www.opensecrets.org/resources/learn/glossary.php#Carey+Committee
In other words, Sunrise Movement is a "dark money" committee.
In the 2020 cycle, they had independent expenditures opposing several Democratic candidates. Those expenditures weren't much at the time, since they only converted to a "Carey" committee in mid-2020. Look for these to be much higher in future elections.
Finally, in the aftermath of January 6, did they think that a demonstration that "blockaded every entrance to the white house [sic]" would NOT result in arrests? I suspect that's what they wanted.

(67,782 posts)...accept unlimited amounts of money from any entity. Essentially they're a dark money organization, so there's no telling actually "who" is bankrolling these children.
The demonstrators come from all over the country, so there's a lot of money behind them.
