Tropical Storm Elsa moves through Caribbean, sets sights on US coastline this week

Tropical Storm Elsa is now 85 miles east of Kingston, Jamaica, and 185 miles southeast of Cabo Cruz, Cuba, as it moves west-northwest at 14 mph with current sustained winds at 65 mph.

A tropical storm warning is in effect for parts of Haiti, Jamaica and parts of Cuba and a tropical storm watch is in effect for parts of Cuba and the Florida Keys.

On the forecast track, Elsa will move away from the southern portion of Haiti during the next couple of hours and move toward Jamaica and portions of eastern Cuba later this morning.

By Monday, Elsa is expected to move across central and western Cuba and head toward the Florida Straits. Elsa is then forecast to move near or over portions of the west coast of Florida on Tuesday and into Wednesday.

Lots of “ifs” with these storms but we’re hoping for just some rain and windy conditions but.. ya never know. That it has slowed down is not what I’m wanting.. get in n out quickly is better!

In my part of Jamaica, it rained for close to 24 hours - a few heavy squalls but nothing scary and the wind was no biggie. Of course there is flooding - there always is flooding.

But nothing is very dirty about the storm. It will just be a good bit of rain and less wind than an afternoon thunderstorms.

I’ve been through 9 Hurricanes, 2 major ones and they were the 2 where we got the eye wall! And I don’t know how many tropical storms. You learn which ones to worry about. This is not one. That could change, but looks unlikely.

We really don’t need the rain here in central Florida. It has been super wet for several weeks and we have little ability to hold moisture. I’m having to mow every 5 days!
