Alaska teen arrested for grabbing controls of plane with 6 people on board sending it into nosedive

An Alaska teen has been arrested for attempting to take control of a small airplane during a commercial flight, Alaska State Troopers said. On Wednesday just before 3 p.m., 18-year-old Jaden Lake-Kameroff was on a Ryan Air flight from Bethel to Aniak, when he got up from his seat “and took control of the yoke causing the Cessna Caravan [aircraft] to nosedive,” troopers said in a statement.

The plane had six people on board. The pilot was able to regain control of the aircraft, and the other passengers managed to pull Lake-Kameroff away from the yoke. “The passengers subdued Jaden while the pilot landed the aircraft safely in Aniak,” according to the statement. Alaska State Troopers in Aniak responded to the incident and arrested the suspect after the plane landed safely.

According to Austin McDaniel, a spokesman for the troopers, the teen had “asked the pilot to fly the plane earlier during the flight and initially asked to sit in the unoccupied copilot seat. Both requests were denied by the pilot,” he wrote in an email to the newspaper.

However, “the ultimate motive for Lake-Kameroff’s actions are still being investigated,” McDaniel added. He is now facing charges of second-degree terroristic threatening, five counts of attempted first-degree assault, and four charges of third-degree assault, troopers said.

What he did was terrorism. And if the court officials aren't convinced of that, have them ask if the other passengers were terrified during the incident.

And when he gets out, he will be clueless on how to act and live in a free world.
He will then start to steal to survive, maybe even violently taking from others.
Until he eventually gets caught and then goes back into the "joint".

But many more lives will be hurt in this future.

Or at least would have done my best trying. I hate flying and if someone fucked around and traumatized me like that, he would not land alive.

and boring, crappy prison meals. Whether he likes it or not.

He should get 20 years as a minimum; everyone could have been killed by his stupidity.

and it mentioned a similar incident, on the same route, that occurred two years ago. It was done by a 16 year old whose name was not made public. Methinks young Jaden has done this before.

Two years ago, a 16-year-old took control of a flight after it left Napakiak headed for Bethel and caused the plane to dive. The pilot returned to Napakiak and landed safely. The juvenile suspect’s name was never released.

and he lives in Bethel, where the 16-year-old was apprehended in the previous incident. So... ? Seems like Bethel AK isn't big enough to have two teenaged dive bomber wannabes.

The first company I worked for had a company plane. Nothing too fancy, a seven passenger King Air. It was a turboprop, pressurized, cruised at about 250 mph.

Worked on a project where the municipal client insisted we’re local. So the company rented three apartments in a Minneapolis suburb near our local office. Every Monday morning we would leave from the local Wisconsin airport, 7:00 am. The airport was 15 minutes from my apartment. Rule was be there 15 minutes early. I’d be sitting at my desk in Minneapolis by 9:00 am. This went on for 3/4 of a year.

Got to know the pilot quite well, and was often allowed to sit in the co-pilots seat. I knew enough to keep my hands to myself (LOL). Lots of great memories.

Could be a cold, rainy day at takeoff. At 5000 ft. pop above the clouds into a bright sunshine. Once on our return it was very foggy. Watched the altimeter wind down below 1100 ft (ground elevation was about 970), still could not see the runway. The pilot made two more attempts before giving up. We diverted to the nearest airport that has instrument landing capabilities. Sitting in the co-pilots seat during an instrument landing is fascinating. This time the altimeter went below 1100 ft and continued to wind down. At 1000 still could see nothing. About 20 ft above the runway the ground came into view, fortunately the runway was directly in front of and below us. I’ll admit I had a bit of sphincter puckering going on for a while.

We had one other time we needed to pull up and make a second landing attempt. There was a herd of deer occupying the runway. We buzzed over at about 100 ft, they dispersed. I suppose hitting a deer on landing could be detrimental.

My brother used to volunteer for a local agency to help the disabled, and one of the young guys he was mentoring was being trained to wash dishes.

The guy pulled out a large knife from the kitchen and threatened to stab the other employees there! They were terrified, but my brother grabbed the young black guy's arm and removed the knife from his hand before anyone called the cops about it.

The young guy was immediately fired, of course. My brother eventually quit the agency too, after dealing with that guy's unpredictable angry outbursts on public busses too.
