Weill reports that Bauer is using a sovereign citizen defense -- saying she doesn't recognize the laws of the U.S. government -- and that she is operating under "divine guidance."
According to the report, "Prosecutors allege that Bauer tried organizing buses to transport people to D.C. for a rally that preceded the riot, and that while in the Capitol rotunda she told police that she wanted to kill House Speaker Nancy Pelosi," with Weill adding, "But in what experts describe as an inadvisable legal strategy, Bauer has demanded to represent herself in court, appeared to threaten a court clerk with prison time, and declared herself a 'self-governed individual' with special legal privileges."
In a Zoom appearance before the court, Bauer told the judge, "I am here by special divine appearance, a living soul," before adding, "I do not stand under the law. Under Genesis 1, God gave man dominion over the law."

(50,529 posts)Take a 16-foot 2x8 and get the lumber associate at Home Depot to cut six feet off one end. Use 3-inch deck screws to fasten them together in the shape of a cross. Use 60-penny nails to attach the sovereign citizen to it. Its easy. Anyone with a cordless drill and a 3-pound sledgehammer can do it.

(21,998 posts)Here are some questions for Pauline Bauer who claims she doesn't recognize our laws.
1. Do you have a driver's license? They're issued by your state government.
2. Is your car or truck registered, licensed and insured? Those are governmental regulations.
3. Do you pay Federal income tax? This one's kind of obvious.
4. When you buy things, do you pay any sales taxes? More government for providing services.
5. Do you use the roads and bridges? Government pays for these things.
6. If your house were on fire, would you call the fire department? They're part of the government.
7. Do you have any money in a bank or invested? Government regulations protect you from fraud.
8. Do you expect the U.S. Armed Forces to protect you and the nation from foreign aggression? Yep, that's the government again.
9. Do you send your kids to public schools? This service is provided by the government.
10. Do you collect Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid? These are government programs.
Bauer is an idiot and her "defense" has already been rejected by many courts in other cases. Does she think she'll get a different outcome?
My goodness, she must be very special.

(6,785 posts)The Sovereign Citizen plate says something about Moorish Nation and has a number on it.
I noticed he always backs into a parking spot where you can only see the plate if you are walking on sidewalk behind the car.
So he may not have much confidence in it's legality. But he's making me pay more taxes with that shit. Not sure how he fares out on street getting pulled over with it.

(5,125 posts)Just like Derek Chauvin was a murderer hiding behind a badge does not make every police officer a murderer.
A person using "Christianity" as a defensive badge to make themselves seem more legitimate DOES NOT make every other person who actually reads the Bible and follows the example of Christ a sham.
A FAILED CHRISTIAN does not make ALL OTHER CHRISTIANS a Sham.
Not every cop is a murderer and not every Christian is a crazy reich wing idiot.
Does that make any sense?

You have dominion over all the other plants and animals.
There was ONE RULE and they could not follow that ONE RULE.

(5,125 posts)My main point is that people like this don't even know the Bible, are not good examples of Christians, so are therefore FAILED Christians who are using it as an excuse to behave in an evil manner.
Highest ranking example are the Medici family who infiltrated the Catholic Church and ran it like a mafia.
Were they baptized? Yes
Did some of them even rise to become Popes? Yes
Did they actually get and live the message of Christ? NO
So therefore, they are failed at being Christians. They did it to obtain power and abuse that power.
THAT IS NOT THE MESSAGE of Christianity.
Anyone who really understands the life and teachings of Christ and takes it to heart would not do these things.

(5,125 posts)IF someone thinks something I do is out of line, I'd like to know why so I can see about a more reasonable approach that still gets a point across without alienating people.
On DU I have found a lot of good feedback from a variety of people. Atheists, pagans, druids, science minded, Buddhists etc.
My only request in all of this is that not all people who believe in Christ and his message are like these people calling themselves Christians and using that as a reason to subjugate others or get out of their responsibilities to the country to behave as decent citizens.
Because in any real sense subjugating others and rebelling against a government that is trying to be fair and also help those in need is SO AGAINST Christian principals that it is mind boggling.
I don't get why asking that not all Christians be thrown under the bus when these people use Christianity as an excuse to misbehave is in any way wrong.
Prejudice can come in many forms and I think most DEMS are against prejudice. So I thought it was helpful to point it out.

(5,125 posts)SO IF she is relying on Genisis 1, she isn't even getting it right.
There was NO LAW at that time in the origin story. Unless you count the one rule, don't eat from that tree.
Which they disobeyed and got them kicked out of the garden.
So IF this person is relying on Christianity to give her dominion over "the law" she isn't standing on any firm foundation.
WHAT I am saying is that it is clear to a Christian that this woman is full of shit.
NOT giving her any excuses.
Just asking that not ALL CHRISTIANS be thrown under the bus for a failed example.
Mariana

(24,392 posts)paternalistic, racist and misogynistic mores. The only thing keeping it at all relevant these days is to ignore the above while replacing the bad stuff with Enlightenment principles that are not to be found in the Buy-Bull.
One can discard the whole of Christianity and not toss out human beings who identify as Christians, because in fact, the large percentage of what makes human beings good people is nowhere to be found in the holy books.

(5,125 posts)Teaching people to be honest, to not steal, to not kill is a failed moral code?
It's in the Bible, so it's bad an wrong and people should lie and steal and kill because that is not what makes people good, following the teachings in the Bible has to be wrong because you say so.
We'd all be Vikings if not for the Church 900 AD, but hey maybe it would be better. We'd have never gotten to the Enlightenment in 1600's because we'd still be out there acting like clans and marauders, conquering the world. I'm part Norwegian so I've looked at the history. https://www.historyonthenet.com/vikings-from-pagans-to-christians
I am not saying that Christianity is for everyone, but if a person really looks to the example of Jesus you live as someone who cares about others and treats people with respect.
Can a person still be moral without Christianity? Sure. There are a lot of great paths now, but society did not pop up completely formed in the 1600's and everything else before and after was crap. It was a process and whether you like it or not, Christianity did help humans become more evolved as people.
Has it also been abused by people in power? Yes.
Are the people in the Reich Wing disgusting and calling it Christian values? Yes. But it does not add up.
You have not read the New Testament if you can disregard the message of Christ so completely. His example and teachings aren't all bad.

LOCKED WARD! Get ready.
Genesis 1... there WAS NO LAW at that time. Ergo no dominion of something that did NOT exist at that point.
There was ONE RULE in the Garden of Eden. DON'T EAT from THAT TREE.
Adam and Eve got kicked out of the garden for being rebellious and were evicted in order to live with the consequences for their choice.
SO getting jailed or locked up is going to give her time to think about THAT.
Maybe she'll have time to actually READ the Bible.
