We moved here just a bit over a year ago - really nice place (but has its share of right wing trumper assholes - the flagged loud trucks in some parking lots, the Cawthorne or trump signs still out). We were so pleased last summer to find a farm stand that sold just incredible sweet corn. Then - the election - we drive by the place on the way to one of our hiking spots - and they had a huge trump sign above the farm sign name. And they left it up - until just a month or so ago. So - we will find our corn elsewhere.
it is so easy when they fly their ignorance so visibly. I suspect they've lost just about all of their blue customers this year. I certainly hope so.

(7,715 posts)Even in the Bay Area like in Walnut Creek, which is a major suburban area, and just a bit outside it, we still have a few Trump propaganda pieces. My family mentioned one pedestrian overpass over I-680 still has stuff. During the election, they constantly had a trump cheering section up there.

(21,104 posts)With yellow recall Newsom signs and a few Mf45 signs mixed in. I middle fingered them. Then when we were returning home I double middle fingered them. We saw these two pick up trucks with American flags on them and sure enough as they passed under the recall overpass groups they honked while in the middle lane and took a sharp right and then cut off a bunch of people and took the off ramp. I suspect they have been driving back and forth on that stretch of the freeway to draw attention.
So even in blue SF/Daly City ( where everyone still wears their mask!) they have theses right wing idiots.

(7,715 posts)We have a megaphone (it's a kid's toy, but it's quite good) and last year we saw a bunch of folks trump folks at the Lafayette Safeway intersection. My daughter and I had a very enjoyable time with the megaphone during a red-light!
That was during the election, but I am not sure I would do it again. These buffoons are dangerous, and the driving stunt you talked about is an example of that.

(21,104 posts)The signs were professional and they all wore the same t custom made t shirts. It was pretty chilly out there 58 degrees with a low hanging fog around 4:30 pm.
I have a good friend who lives in Pleasant Hill and she went full on Q and MF45. The final straw was when I asked her if she thought because I was a liberal I drank childrens blood according to Q and it took her a long while to say no. Ive known her since 1983 and that was the last straw for me. last year I stopped speaking to her and unfriended her on Facebook.

(7,715 posts)I told my family that these folks were probably paid, as it was cheaper than buying advertising, particularly in CA, where trump didn't stand a chance. They certainly did pick high-traffic areas, so they certainly got exposure.
I don't understand how the trump propaganda has survived on the I-680 ped overpass for so long. That's public property, and somebody should have ripped the stuff down. I haven't driven under that in a couple of months, so I don't if it's still there.

If you're selling tie-died t-shirts and Birkenstocks you can probably assume TFG's cult members won't be shopping at your store so it doesn't matter if you've got a BLM poster in your window. If you sell guns and Bibles you aren't marketing to the same people and you can go all Trumpy and it probably won't affect your business. But if you're selling fresh produce at a farm stand where all manner of folks will be driving by and might want to buy some sweet corn, FFS - keep your politics to yourselves. It's just stupid.

Despite the sugar in sweet corn, it is not a high-glycemic food, ranking low or medium on the glycemic index (GI) (3)."

(102,192 posts)So, NO it is not like a jelly donut that lacks any of the vitamins and minerals (and fiber) that sweet corn provides and has an extremely high glycemic index of at least 78 (anything above 70 is very high).
For that reason, corn can be part of a healthy diet for anyone, including diabetics in moderation.
One of my friends grows an old Oneida corn. I think it is better overall. But I still enjoy roasting some sweet corn out over a fire in the late summer - early fall. And using it when we can relish.

So, moderation.
Doremus
(7,261 posts)Who told you that? There are all kinds of nutrients, vitamins and protein in corn. If you're predisposed to diabetes I'd eat it in moderation but otherwise it's quite healthy.
Now if you're slathering it with butter, cheese or any other unhealthy stuff, then that's a different story.

(5,111 posts)Animal fats. So much of that low fat thinking is completely outdated. I would not touch corn. I was prediabetic for several years and did not want to have the same fate as most of my family, including my grandmother who had to have her foot amputated. I have been keto for years and my numbers are great. Blood glucose, HDL, liver enzymes, BP, triglycerides, everything. My vegan doctor was aghast at my keto diet but she couldnt argue with my results told me that my numbers are great and keep doing wat Im doing. I am considering eliminating dairy but still doing research. I have an open mind and dearly wish everything in moderation was true, but its not. They are foods we should all be avoiding regardless of how delicious and traditional. I wish I could eat Mexican street corn, sugary sweets, pasta potatoes, popcorn, bread, all that stuff that sends our blood sugar into the stratosphere and eventually results in insulin resistance. No thanks, I want to keep my feet (and kidneys).

I haven't the time or inclination to give you citations that prove your post is nonsense but it is. If you really had the open mind you say you do, you could take some time over at nutritionfacts.org and do some in-depth research. With the amount of outright BS that passes for science that finds its way into the plethora of get-rich-quick diets and for-profit "nutrition products," I can see why you hold mistaken beliefs.
You don't have to stay ignorant though. The information is out there, but you have to sift through a lot of junk to get to the truth.

(5,111 posts)The Research So Far
The ketogenic diet has been shown to produce beneficial metabolic changes in the short-term. Along with weight loss, health parameters associated with carrying excess weight have improved, such as insulin resistance, high blood pressure, and elevated cholesterol and triglycerides. [2,7] There is also growing interest in the use of low-carbohydrate diets, including the ketogenic diet, for type 2 diabetes. Several theories exist as to why the ketogenic diet promotes weight loss, though they have not been consistently shown in research:

But the cult...well, they don't recognize anyone not in the cult and to them, Biden winning the popular vote (meaning there are fewer of them than us) never happened. We will not patronize any business that supports trump--so far it has removed two pizza places from our list of choices. But we live deep in Trumpistan, so our not patronizing them has zero effect. However, since this is a tourist destination, a lot of them may realize that they can't rely on the locals to be trumpers and so they don't advertise their stupidity.

So long as a business or professional does not openly declare their political leanings, I'm OK with it. When they make a huge production about it, donate to a candidate or party that is dangerous to our democracy, or behave in a blatantly biased way, I will happily spend money at their business or use their services.
I have no idea about the politics of my accountant or of my many doctors because they never bring it up during consultations. I'm happy to keep it that way. That's all I ask of them. But if they few Trump flags at their place of business I would be out of there in a heartbeat and not go back.
