FOLSOM (CBS13) A restaurant owner in Folsom posted a slow service sign, asking customers to be patient with the short-staffed taqueria desperate for employees to come back to work.
Taco Loco is a popular eatery here in Folsom and posted a sign explaining to customers why service might be slow.
The sign reads:
To our loyal customers. Sadly, due to government and state handouts no one wants to work anymore. Therefore, we are short staffed
Please be patient with our staff that did choose to come to work today.

(2,248 posts)I would normally have some patience, but with a message like that, I wouldn't give them anything.

(21,998 posts)How dumb is the owner and/or manager? They just alienated a sizable portion of their customer base.
Idiots.
When they have to close their doors, they'll blame President Biden, of course.

(1,727 posts)'nobody wants to work for the shit wages I'm willing to pay'.
My area has an unemployment rate of 3.5%. Correct me if I'm wrong but people getting checks from the government would be reflected in those statistics.
If they're staying home for that sweet gubbermint money there aren't many that are doing so.

(6,679 posts)First time we ate at a local place they were complaining of short staff. I overheard the owner whining no one wants to work because of "free money". When we left he was running the credit cards and brought my card back to me. I asked they they are paying - he said $4.40 plus tips.
I didn't even try to be polite, and in fact was quite loud. $4.40 ?? !! That place isn't that busy. They don't serve alcohol. McD's down on the corner is offering $15 to start - it's a wonder anyone will work here.
Found out yesterday his staff is all family. Literally, no one wants to work for him. First time we ate there and won't again. The guy deserves to go under.

(11,869 posts)It is possible that the tipped staff makes well over $15 per hour
Ever notice in the threads about restaurants paying a living wage without tipping never actually have any servers posting who agree. Not universal, but I think many who do those jobs may very well make more $$ under the current system

(6,679 posts)No alcohol, not a lot of traffic in and out of the place. If they stay and work 10 hours and cover both lunch and dinner rushes I doubt they get anywhere near $110 in tips. At best, they might hit minimum wages of $7.25 hrly.
This kind of place, .... My meal was $8. I gave a $5 tip but most take the table and yap for an hour after finishing the meal, and leave a dollar. If this owner can't consider his servers as partners in his business and pay them accordingly, then he deserves to fail.

(614 posts)outside of Sacramento, the rents have gone up here more than most places in CA, about 3-400 dollars increase in a year. Job market seems to be hopping, help wanted signs at all the retail and hospitality. Dude needs to quit blaming some wack fantasy, deal with the real world and offer a decent wage.
