They are the ones who NEED to understand that it isn't about them, but because they feel the message is directed at them it is in their viewpoint a reason that it IS about them. (Marketing mentality means those being marketed to are therefore "important" )

Like Smokey the Bear used to say, "ONLY YOU can prevent forest fires" was aimed at people in general, but more specifically idiots who would do risky behaviors. WHO were the ones who would IGNORE the message? The idiots who needed to pay attention.


So they SEE that the message is meant FOR them, then turn it around to be about them instead of listening to the actual message.
