Red tide in the Tampa Bay area is bad right now.

Had made an AirBnb rental for Longboat Key (right off of Sarasota) for the family. Directly on the Gulf.

Needless to say everyone was looking forward to a nice beach vacation.

When we were driving there yesterday began to see some news reports about red tide in the area. But I had hoped it was just some isolated patches.

We get there, go to the beach in front of the place and sadly it is lined with several dozen dead fish and the water not as clear as usual. And it caused my kids to sneeze and cough a bit.

Unfortunately our reservation was useless; going to a beach place where we couldn’t use the beach was like going to an amusement park where all the rides were down.

We had no choice but to immediately leave; calling an audible, we decided to head 100 miles south to Marco Island for another place on the beach. Thankfully there’s no sign of it here so our vacation continues.

They think it was exacerbated by that Piney Point waste reservoir that was leaking earlier this year, and from excess water in the bay from Elsa passing by last week.

And despite last year’s election, Georgia’s government isn’t really any better than ours, if you haven’t noticed.
