I'm in a blue area of red state not far from the Ozarks that ended it's mask mandates with the CDC honor system. Vax rates are only slightly higher than the rest of the state. I feel like I'm a 1%er when I go into stores with everyone else mostly maskless. I see maskless kids and mask wearing is inconsistent at best among employees at the places I've been to in the past 2 months. How many places will be trendy like LA and reimpose the mandates?

(4,673 posts)would be 50/50. My area has a higher vaccination rate than the US or CA and our numbers have not ticked up yet, but people are generally pretty respectful of the virus here.

(90,762 posts)Everything is trending up - new cases, deaths. We're averaging 8 new cases a day. Not heavily populated, rural area.
Everything but vaccinations, that is. Losing ground there. Only 29% fully vaccinated.
I wear my mask regardless. I got the Moderna 2 shot.

(31,384 posts)bluest of blue county in purple NC. Senior day we get 5,% off. Only about half of people in store were wearing masks, but we do have a very high percentage of seniors vaxxed. I think it's about 80% or more, while the overall fully vaxxed rate is about 55 %. I wear a mask whenever I go inside any stores. My second Moderna was mid March.
But our overall numbers state wide are climbing. Our positivity rate had been below 2.5%. Now it's 5.5%. New cases almost doubled from Tuesday to Wednesday. Hospitalizations are going up.
I also picked up books at the library. Our county libraries still require masks and check temps on the way in. I set off the failure scan of the forehead at 100.6! My car said it was 96 outside. The attendant had a handheld to check my wrist temp and I passed. Came home and took my temp the old fashioned way with thermometer under the tongue. 99.2. So much for the forehead scan.
I'm 30 miles south of Austin, San Marcos, and I was rather proud of our area we were around 75-80% wearing mask. But, I just went to our local grocery store, of course I wore my mask, and I was shocked maybe 2-5% of us were wearing a mask. That scared the hell out of me I guess I will go back to ordering our food, I'm just glad I only went in there for some milk. My wife is a Nurse Practitioner and works in a small clinic where she said the positive cases are going up. I have now started worrying for her again, we have gotten both shots of the Maderna Vaccine but we still have our grandchildren near us.

(42,552 posts)First thing (really the only thing) I did after achieving full vaccination in mid May was go back inside the grocery store myself. Saw the number of shoppers with masks get progressively smaller over a course of several weeks. After seeing all the travel and partying on the 4th of July weekend, I decided to go back to curbside pickup.

(3,815 posts)I went grocery shopping two days ago. I was the only one wearing a mask in the store. Even the store employees were no longer wearing them. Our COVID counts are on the rise here again.
I've been fully vaxxed, (Moderna,) since 4/12.
in the rural area of SW WI I live in...probably about 5-10%. I go to Madison fairly often and it's MAYBE 30%, sad to say.
There was a mask mandate in Dane county (home of Madison) and people were being pretty smart about it overall. Since it expired people seem to have forgotten all about the virus that isn't forgetting about them. I have been using a filter mask under a cloth mask when I'm in any enclosed/indoor space where people are (or could have been) all through this, and I will continue to do so until the last anti-vaxxer dies from their own stupidity...which could take a while: there's a lot of them.
Starting to wear masks in selected outdoor spaces where people are too, given the easy transmission of the Delta varient.

(7,510 posts)Maybe a third of store employees still mask.
Some stores have taken down the plexiglass shields at checkout stations. I hope they haven't discarded them, because they will need them this fall.

(205,237 posts)Now the signs say that only unvaccinated patrons are required to wear masks, so there are very few now - usually just me and about half of the employees. My county is at 64% vaccinated, despite vaccination sites operating all over, many taking walk-ins. And it's now at the height of the tourist season in nearby Lake George. Many of the cars I see are from out-of-state and not just nearby Vermont, New Jersey and Massachusetts. Within the week I've seen Florida, South Carolina, Georgia and North Carolina...
And I got my second Moderna shot at the end of March, at the time I had to drive a ways south to get an appointment.

(58,647 posts)I'm in South King County, though, which has a lower vax rate than the larger urban areas.
But in stores and shit, the mask rate is still pretty good. I'm still wearing mine indoors in public areas.

(44,973 posts)Now, nearly zero.
Since we are under 50 % vaccinated, un-vaccinated aren't wearing masks either.

(32,080 posts)I'm in Joe "You lie!" Wilson country, where only 37% of these fucking morons are vaccinated. Which is below the state average. Yes, COVID is back on the upswing here again, to nobody's surprise. It's probably about to get even worse with the July 4 cases rolling in.
In the stores, maybe 40% of employees are masked. I also see more elderly in masks than anyone, and the 65 and over crowd has the highest vaccination rates in my county, where we're pushing 70%. Most of them got jabbed before the seditionists on the Propaganda Channel started their anti-vaccination treachery.
There will be no mask mandates in this shithole. Not until it gets so bad that it forces Gov. McMoron's hand. The same goes for our idiot local officials.

(3,977 posts)Sometimes the elderly but other than that very few adults.
No chance of another mask mandate unless there's a dramatic spike in hospitalizations.

(12,841 posts)I mask up in public fully vaccinated, I very rarely see others out masked up as in customers, Well store employees are masked up. Well some employees are wearing mask I should say.
I am guessing 10% are masked.

(2,769 posts)We have one of the best rates of vaccinations in the country (close to 70%).
The only places I know that require masks are doctor's offices and hospitals.

(14,828 posts)Walmart, Publix, Winn-Dixie, Aldi, UPS Store, Post Office, Bealls... all places I frequent. All employees wear masks. Home Depot is the exception. I'd guess that 40-50% wear masks.

(4,440 posts)I still wear a mask when I got into stores but most people aren't wearing one.

(8,756 posts)The CTA still mandates mask wearing on all trains and busses. But people are noticing nobody's enforcing it despite constant audio reminders. Still most riders are wearing them.
But outside that, very few regularly.

(5,810 posts)Every time I go out, there are fewer people using masks. But I always see a few walking along the street, fully masked. Even in oppressive heat. I just dont get that. There wont be anyone within 25 yards and theyll be masked with a black mask .as if they arent hot enough already!
I was looking at masks last night on Amazon thinking of ordering a box. Prices have come down and you can find them in a variety of colors and styles. If I order some to supplement the ones I already have, you can bet I wont order black. 😉
Usage here was pretty good a couple of months ago but it is dropping. Store employees consistently had masks until the last week or so. It seems as if people in general have decided we have the all clear. I dont get it. With numbers going up every day, we are definitely not out of the woods yet. I feel pretty confident about myself since I got the Moderna shots months ago but I do worry for those who refuse to get vaccinated. Im afraid theyll pay a big price for their foolishness.

(1,327 posts)But very few others are wearing them. I think it was a huge mistake to roll back the mask requirement. Whether or not it might be reasonably safe for people who actually are fully vaccinated, the removal of the mandate does not take into account human behavior, i.e. all the anti-vaxxers eagerly stop wearing masks, too, and children under 12, who can't yet get shots and didn't want to wear masks in the first place, have low levels of compliance now that they see adults aren't wearing them.
I really hope Biden/the CDC puts mask recommendations back into place since cases are now rising.

(30,613 posts)For a year, it was about 98%
I expect this may change again as Delta really kicks in.

(11,451 posts)Yesterday. My husband refuses to wear one now no matter what I say about variants. I am vaccinated he says.
So I figure I do what I can.
I noticed Trader Joes took the plastic barriers down, all employees were wearing masks.
People seem to want to believe it is over.

(5,942 posts)I am in a St. Louis, so a blue city in a deeply red state that is leading the country in new Covid infections. There was an article in the paper here today that recommended that even the fully vaccinated should start wearing masks again. https://www.stltoday.com/lifestyles/health-med-fit/coronavirus/absent-aggressive-action-st-louis-will-be-hit-by-covid-19-as-hard-as-springfield/article_6647c2ea-187e-57eb-b5f9-5078f1a7a842.html#tracking-source=home-top-story
