(7,510 posts)The Tokyo Olympic organizing committee said July 17 that a foreign national staying at the Olympic village in Tokyo was its first confirmed COVID-19 case.
No details were given about the individual's gender or nationality.
All the organizing committee divulged was that an individual connected with the Olympics from overseas had been confirmed with the novel coronavirus and is now quarantined at a hotel set aside for those who are asymptomatic or with minor symptoms.
The organizing committee also said that 14 individuals with Olympic accreditation tested positive for COVID-19 on July 17.

The organizing committee has been announcing confirmed COVID-19 cases tied to the Olympics on a daily basis, but 15 is the largest figure to date.
Since July 1, when the policy was implemented, 45 individuals have been confirmed with the novel coronavirus.
