The Los Angeles County Sheriff announced that his department will not enforce a reinstated mask mandate, saying it is not backed by guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Scheduled to go into effect Saturday night, the mandate requires all residents, regardless of vaccination status, to wear masks indoors. Sheriff Alex Villanueva said that while the Los Angeles County Department of Health could enforce the order, the underfunded/defunded Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department will not expend our limited resources and instead ask for voluntary compliance.
Villanueva also encouraged the county Board of Supervisors and law enforcement to establish mandates that are both achievable and supported by science.
One month ago, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) said, California is turning the page on this pandemic, and announced an end to almost all pandemic-related restrictions in the state.
The new masking order comes amid a rising number of coronavirus infections and the rapid spread of the delta variant, which accounts for almost 58 percent of all cases in the country. The Los Angeles County Department of Health described alarming trends of increased community spread and reported 452 people hospitalized with coronavirus infections, nearly double from the total recorded a month ago.

(15,184 posts)As a vaccinated person, I'd be a little annoyed about having to wear a mask again (although yes, I know, many vaxxed DU-ers are adamant about wearing a mask no matter what), but the unvaxxed are still out there spreading contagion.
Since it's impractical to ask everyone if they've been vaccinated, and impossible to trust their replies even if you did, making everyone wear a mask again is pretty much the only thing you can do in some cases.

(14,951 posts)department enthusiastically enforces (like drug laws)... We will ignore that ridiculous hypocrisy resulting from a granting of the validity of his argument, for the moment, because said granting is overly generous. He deserves no such granting.
What are this motherfucker's qualifications to make that judgment and what body of evidence is he using to draw that conclusion? This brownshirt has, according to Wikipedia, a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies, a Master's degree in Public Administration, and Doctoral degree in Public Administration. Whoop Dee Fucking Doo. Is he some Good Will Hunting genius autodidact who has studied medicine, epidemiology, Public Health, etc in the meantime? All those MDs, MPHs, PhDs in Public Health employed by the LA County Department of Public Health are idiotic, delusional, and ignorant, but he knows the truth, huh? Okay, great. Prove it. Show your evidence that they are wrong. We'll wait...........
