‘I feel like I’m half vaccinated’: Some who got Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines are seeking booster shots as delta variant spreads, despite CDC guidance

2021/7/18 03:07 (CDT) ©Chicago Tribune

CHICAGO – Earlier this year, Erkin Peksoz wanted a COVID-19 vaccine so badly that he drove 640 miles roundtrip from Chicago to Quincy to get a Johnson & Johnson shot.

Peksoz was happy with that decision — until recently, when the more contagious delta variant of the virus emerged. Now, he’d like to get a shot of a Moderna or Pfizer vaccine, in hopes of increasing his protection.

“Until delta, I was not worried at all,” said Peksoz, a consumer data consultant. “I feel like I’m half-vaccinated now.”

you got your J&J, and don't admit you already got J&J shot.
Based on AstraZeneca's data, boosting J&J with Moderna or Pfizer should work really well.
I personally would want to boost my Moderna's with another Moderna or Pfizer in 6 months.

but someone who got J&J and then Moderna or Pfizer booster would still be getting only 2 doses of the vaccine.

Most (if not all) state health departments have immunization registries that health care providers and pharmacies report immunizations to. A pharmacy may be capable of looking up vaccination status from the registry.

Because the J&J acts differently and there is not much available information on the long term effectiveness of the J&J or how it fares against the variants. By the same token I was reading here:
https://www.fool.com/investing/2021/07/12/could-this-cdc-comment-hurt-pfizer-and-moderna/
that the Pfizer real world data in in the 60% range of effectivness but still 90+ for fatality. So maybe thats why the push for the booster. I will discuss this with my Doc in a couple of weeks.

6. I got the J&J and I'm not remotely worried about it being every bit as good.

If it really were more of a problem, I'm betting the stories that focus on "breakthrough" infections more than on the huge number of unvaccinated cases, I'm betting those stories would be telling us that those who got the J&J were getting such breakthrough infections in greater numbers.

People are also jumping the gun about needing a booster.
