https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/2021/07/19/wedding-dress-black-bride-segregation/Martha Tucker always dreamed of wearing a classic white gown on her wedding day. But when she got married in 1952, she was barred from entering a bridal shop because of her race.
As a Black woman in Birmingham, Ala., she was forbidden from trying on her dream dress: an embroidered white gown with lace overlay and long sleeves. At the time, I wasnt even thinking about buying a wedding dress because I knew I couldnt go in the store, Tucker, who is now 94, recalled.
Recently, though, Tuckers wish to wear a wedding dress was finally granted, when her family brought her to a bridal shop for a long overdue gown fitting nearly 70 years after her wedding day.

(61,690 posts)I suspect the poster used "sweet" because the very elderly woman was smiling as a dream finally came true for her. And from the reflections in the mirrors, her family was thrilled as well.
She's especially lovely in that first dress.

(146,254 posts)However, it is a sad, sad story. That a young woman about to get married could not be fitted with a wedding dress for her important day is a disgusting example of the pain racism has caused for so many people.
